Hi ,

Just letting you know that Respirdahl is not an SSRI but a Neurolaptic drug

(Anti Psychotic) designed for persons who become psychotic such as people with

Schizopherenia or Schizo-affective Bipolar Disorder. It is one of the newer

generation of anti-psychotic drugs (mid to Late 80s) which works buy limiting

(partial blockage) of the neurotransmiteter dopamin.

The older generation of this kind of drugs caused Tardive Dyscanasia (a

permanent neurological damage causing involuntary motor problems as well as

Parkensonian disease. The newer ones which Risperdahl fall into have had no

such side effect so far documented but some problem associated with diabetes

has been documented with some of the neurolaptics (Olonzopine also known as

Zyprexia as well as Clozopine). Risperdahl is not the newest in the market and

now there are some that proported to be better and have fewer side effects.

Those are Abilify and Geodon (Geodon in rare cases causes heart problems). I

am not aware of any studies on the effects of neurolaptics on children and

long term effect on adults or children are unknown.

I do recognize that your daughter might benefit from this drug but want to let

you know that this is not an SSRI, but far more of a powerful drug. I have

researched neurolaptics because both my husband and my sister are dependent on

it as they both have Schizo-affective Bipoalar.

One last thing is, if your child's screaming is because of physical pain

unknown to you, these drugs can mask the actual problem. My recommendation is

to keep a close eye on her and best of luck to you and your family in your

search for answers.

P.S. sorry if there are too many misspelled names here.

Just wanted to mention that Abilify is known to cause " akathisia " ....alot of

psych's aren't happy with it. Kids seem to do real well for about 2 months

and then regress quickly.

There doesn't seem to be alot of choices for our kids.

my son's develop ped wants him to go on risperdahl cause he is so hyper and

bounces around like a ball in a pin ball machine. he is 8 yrs old. we just

began chelating him using td dmps and ndf+. however, he has always been hyper

and has many sensory issues.

anyway, im going to try some rna products first before doing this. vicki

Hi,

I wanted to share our experience w/risperdhal (risperidone). My daughter has

been on risperidone for a few months. Before the med she would have many

screaming, kicking, crying episodes a day. She was very unhappy. Hated school,

spent the majority of her day in time out.

After the risperidone, she is happy, no more screaming, kicking (she still

gets mad, she has a temper, but nothing like it was!) She is more affectionate,

wants books read to her, is pointing to show what she wants. She is potty

trained!!!! She got student of the month last month. This would've never

happened last year. We can actually go shopping and she will be as quiet as a

mouse. I know this is a powerful drug and believe me I steered away from it as

long as I could. We tried many things, this is the only thing that as worked. I

want to add we are also doing behavior therapy along with the med. That has

made a huge difference also!

Good luck to you!

Yes we really tried to stay away from the risperdahl, this

is really the last ssri drug that we have tried..Machaela is 10 years

old. she is also deaf and very hyper, very hard for her to have any

demand placed on her especially at school without a huge tantrum and

her screaming is very loud and distrubative..very hard for her to

learn, also very OCD with throwing things against the wall balls, mr

potato heard anything she can find...Please let me know what can help

us with the risperdahl, she really seems to be doing a little better

on the very low dose at bedtime..she if very happy, smiling and seems

love her to be happy...Seems more aware..

Thank you so much...

We have used this with our NT son who was suffeing from REM sleep deprivation.

(thank GOD for experts, I just assumed he was always nasty!) Anyway, we used it

with him for amost 2 years with great success, he was weaned off and doing well.

Again, it was a huge and difficult decision, one that came with a list of risks,

but we felt that by not addressing this issue, we would be putting him at

greater risk.

thanks guys for all the responses concerning risperdahl. this is a biggie

for me as i really dont want to do the meds thing (again). however, i do keep

my options open and will do meds as a last resort only.

just ordered $$$$ worth of rna products from longevity. all the behavior and

gut stuff they got. should receive it by this wed. cant wait to try it and

hopefully there will be a pretty good response. tx again!
