Guest guest
Josie, I'm assuming that you ordered the urine amino acids through direct labs? Do you think that the results of the urine would be adequate as a first line test? I have read on another forum that doing a plasma (or serum?) and urine at the same time give the most reliable results, however we don't have a DAN at this time. We're doing really well on a super multi, extra mag taurate and calcium, extra zinc based on low # in reg. ped ordered blood work, Nordic naturals 3 6 9, all 3 Houston enzymes, extra vit C....... think that's it! Currently out of Culturelle, but were doing that too. My kids have tics, no other spectrum disorders, well maybe a little sensory stuff. I was really hoping the enzymes would help with increase in food choices with my 9 yr. old, hasn't happened. I'm thinking amino acids and OAT testing would be really beneficial for him. TIA for any thoughts. Kim
Guest guest
Jenna, The ones I was using for my son tasted terrible--on par with B vitamins. I was using a broad spectrum blend. Unless you have the testing done and the custom blended ones based on that information, a broad spectrum blend is your best bet. I didn't see any improvements at all and removed them as a result of my son starting some seizure activity. Didn't see any regression when we took them out either. Not sure what they did, except cost an awful lot. Sigh. I'm pretty sure you cannot bake them as they are susceptible to heat. It may be easier and less expensive to supplement with something like undenatured whey protein (if she's not CF). You can get organic ones that go well in smoothies she could sip throughout the day. Just a thought. I've heard of people getting good results from custom blend aminos, but never heard any good results from the way I did it. Don't want to sound too discouraging. Sorry. I realize this does. Maybe others will have heard/experienced more good stuff with the amino supps. Anita > > This is the next supplement I'd like to add in. Have people found > this helpful? Guest guest
We used a custom amino acid blend for almost a year based on a plasma amino acid test our DAN ran. Then we re-tested and based on the results we " downgraded " to a broad spectrum one (Klaire's amino acid complete). After 3 months on that, I ran a urine amino acid test (on my own w/o DAN) to see where we stood and her levels were great. I am a big believer in amino acid supplementation if it is based on real (lab confirmed) requirements. I think this was one of the most helpful things we did for our daughter. I remember when the first plasma amino acid test came back our doc just shaking her head and wondering how our daughter had been doing as well as she had been doing her aminos were sooooo screwy and low. ly I think the plasma amino acid test and the essential fatty acid test and an OAT are 3 of the most valuable tests you can run. All these kids need EFAs as well but doing the wrong combination (and w/o knowing other anti-oxidant status) you can really run amok. My daughter just turned 4 and is " NT with supplements " (ie she takes the kitchen sink and as long as she takes that stuff she is a completely normal kid - but there is nothing normal about a 4 year old taking as many vitamins as she takes) > > This is the next supplement I'd like to add in. Guest guest
Kim: I actually did the most recent urine amino acid test through Yasko’s site testing4health b/c I have ordered the genetics on my daughter and though we have a DAN we like, I am in steep learning mode on Yasko protocol. I think her metals detox is probably superior to DAN. But I use Direct Labs in general Direct Labs has the Metametrix OAT and urine amino acid and I believe the plasma as well. They just send you to a local lab for the draw but then the results come directly to you from Metametrix. They are like a contractor. I think urine would be a good place to start but look around for the analysis and ask Metametrix to provde a good guide. Urine intepretatuions are different than plasma interpretations. Self limiting food choices was our biggest behavioral problem back in the day and HNI enzymes did nothing to expand her palate. What finally did it was about ½ a year worth of full supplementation in cluding the aminos and the targeted fatty acid (and things to help her metabolize them). If I were in your shoes (and eseentially Iw as I guess!) I would really want an OAT, fatty acid test, and amino acid (plasma in ideal burt nothing wrong w/getting the urtine its cheaper and easier) BTW, I cant say enough about fatty acid testing. After I saw the results of my daughter’s tests and in conjunction with the OAT I realizerd that we really would have been shooting in the dark without that testing. I hope this helps Josie Re: Re: Amino Acids?? Josie, I'm assuming that you ordered the urine amino acids through direct labs? Guest guest
Thanks so much. THat was very helpful. We had an amino acid plasma test done and hers were off. That was back around February. We were starting so much and I felt so overwhelmed with how I was going to get everything in, that I put the customblended aminos on hold. Now I am getting the hang of things and thinking I'd like to add them in, as I said. Do you think I need to retest?? I am hoping no! I don't want to draw blood again - her veins are bad! We did a OAT also. I remember discussing her fatty acid metabolism - it was off, but I don't know if we did a specific test - what was that test and what did it tell you exactly. > > Kim: > > > > I actually did the most recent urine amino acid test through Yasko's site > testing4health b/c I have ordered the genetics on my daughter and though we > have a DAN we like, I am in steep learning mode on Yasko protocol. Guest guest
The OAT would tell you if her fatty acid metabolism was off. But you wouldn’t know “how” off unless you had a plasma EFA test where it would give you exact levels for things like EPA and DHA and all kinds of other things (three single spaced pages). I think if it were me I would assume things were the same from February w/regard to the Plasma amino acids. Google for the Metametrix interpretive guide for that test and for the OAT and, if you spend a few hours with it, you can pretty much understand them both (go line by line – the guide is great) and see what is off and why the doc recommended certain things (or ask intelligent questions about why they didn’t if you think something is missing). One of the things I also did after we had a number of tests and DAN wanted us to add all kinds of things…I took all of the supplements to a holistic nutritionist who muscles tests and asked her to confirm that my daughter tested strong for all supplements and she also helped us to sequence them when we started them (the doc said it didn’t matter…I felt it did). This is one of those things that not everyone is comfortable with. I have been fortunate enough to know people who can do this very well. I hope this helps Josie Re: Re: Amino Acids?? > > > > Josie, > > I'm assuming that you ordered the urine amino acids through direct labs? > > Do you think that the results of the urine would be adequate as a first line > > test? > > I have read on another forum that doing a plasma (or serum?) and urine at > the same time give the most reliable results, however we don't have a DAN at > > this time. Guest guest
Dear Jenna, we do use Amino acid and its been quite helpful for my son.His skin improved and he regressed when his broad spectrum amino acid finished although he was still on basic detox. He also improved when we replaced it. we use Broad spectrum Amino acid from BioCare --capsule together with then Pea protein from Lamberts -- powdered, 2 heaped dessertspoons( 20g )will give you 17.1 g.the taste is not horrible and can be added at the end of the cooking period of food. or Rice protein from Nutribiotic--- powdered 15g gives 12 of protein.the taste is plesant and i add it to my son's milk shake (dari free).they have different flavours i hope you find this useful Doris > > > > This is the next supplement I'd like to add in.
