Anyway, the groupowner of the list where there >is lots of discussion about EFAs makes this claim. She says that CLO >is bad to take since the liver is a body's trash heap and why would we >want to take oil straight from the trash heap? Why wouldn't we take >it from a " safer " part of the fish. What is your explanation as to >why taking oil from " the trash heap " is safe. That's a misunderstanding of the liver's function. The liver's main job is to *process* chemicals, not to *store* them. Fat-soluble toxins are stored in fat - usually in adipocytes (storage tissue). Water-soluble toxins are excreted in the urine. It's possible that a very diseased liver cannot properly process toxins and so some may accumulate, but for all intents and purposes you are not going to find such livers in markets in this country because the livers of slaughtered animals are tossed if they are diseased. BUT, whether or not livers store toxins is a moot point when it comes to CLO because any toxins (usually PCBs, mercury, dioxins, etc) are removed in_the_processing. I mean, look at Nordic Naturals' assays - nearly zero toxins. The same goes for Blue Ice. So even IF all these cod were swimming around with trash heap livers (which is a completely unreasonable assumption) it wouldn't matter one bit since the toxins are removed. In fact it's probably much safer to consume the processed oil than the fish itself. LOL It's also important to note that it's quite probable that fish are no more contaminated today than at other times in the planet's history because toxins like mercury and dioxins have ALWAYS been around. In fact, mercury is what gives plankton its reddish color and plankton are at the bottom of the food chain in the sea. So it's always been in our diet. The only thing that's changed is our ability to detox it. Weston Price's studies of healthy primitive groups and their diets does a good job of addressing why that is. >Let me tell you, I sure wish the folks on that other EFA list were >reading all of your information-packed, well-written posts. I get mine from Dr. Ron because I get a discount since I maintain his website. But both are the exact same product and same price. Suze Fisher Lapdog Design, Inc.
