Guest guest
That sounds frightening to me. 150mg per day is more than enough for my 8 year old. Depression lifts, more cooperative, etc. With SSRI's they always suggest slow and low. What's wrong with conservative safe approach? You can always go up. My dd is currently taking 25mg in the am & pm and doing very well at that dose. I also just read that 5-htp increases seratonin and l-theanine decreases it so it seems to me the two togeather would be canceling each other out. Guest guest
5HTP is an amino acids and very different than SSRI which is a toxic chemical that blocks the reuptake of serotonin in the brain. There is nothing at all that resembles SSRI in 5HTP and that is why 5HTP works so much better and cleaner. 5HTP feeds into tryptophan deficiency while SSRI intoxicate the brain in order to block the reuptake and thus leave more seratonin available. However, I totally agree with Dianne that this seems very very high and why should a child have to start so high is beyond me. Since I know nothing about amino acid metabolism, I'd fear that too much Tryptophan would put something else out of balance. 100 mg of 5HTP has resolved my night waking issues of 5 years (43 yo adult, 124 lb) and it has done wonders for my husband (47, 155lb) as well. The dose for my son is not so clear as it is in his custom amino acid but this has done wonders for his anxiety and mood. Is there any explanation or rationale that this doctor has offered for such high dose? If your friend decides to go ahead with this, I would really like to know if there is any improvement or reaction. but I would suggest to start with 100 mg and go up gradually until reaching optimum result and stopping at that level. Then calling the docor any saying beyond this dose we saw no improvement or experienced regression. This is what I would do.
