Guest guest
My son also has trouble with these issues. Can anyone reccomend good supplements for sensory difficulties? So many other things have dramatically improved since we started Enzymes in February - fine motor improved, communication tripled, social skilss, play skills. But our biggest struggle right now is in sensory problems (banging his body, hyper, not able to sit still, gross motor) and behaviors(repetetive speech, odd speech, giggling, spitting, and poking) I think it may be yeast-related, though we tried a course of Nystatin a few months ago and really didnt notice a big difference. Please help with any suggestions. all are greatly appreciated. We will start PT and Sensory Integration this summer but I am really wanting to get closer to an underyling problem. > > > > > (PDD-NOS, 4 yo)has been on Brainchild II Pak since Jan. This sounds like the opposite result, but I have read that description from several parents, and it meant their child was impacted. It can also mean yeast overgrowth. > As for the hyper behavior, I know he can't control that, I think it > is organic. Any ideas? You might need to lower the dose of the Brainchild. > Another observation, I did have the impression when we started the > HNI, that it enhanced the good things about the Brainchild. Guest guest
My kids sensory issues (which include versions of both these issues) are always due to yeast. If you are doing the traditional GFCF, that was very high in simple starches and sugar for my kids - we actually are CF and 2 of us are GF, but I am more careful about what I use to replace those foods. Sweetened rice milks, legume flours and anything with actual sugar will send my son running himself into walls, and up til at least 1:00 am. My son takes Nystatin because on his OAT, it is actually tartaric acid that's elevated. It doesn't kill all strains of yeast though. Other options include GSE (not if you're on SSRI's though), oil of oregano, caprylic acid and for prescriptions, diflucan. There are excellent yeast links on Dana's site. We just started using Three Lac which is the first probiotic that we've tolerated here, and it seems to be doing amazing things, compared to straight antifungals ......although it's been almost 8 years since my son was born with full head to toe yeast/thrush and it's still a daily battle with his sensory behaviors going up and down at the slightest piece of fruit, or other yeast feeding infraction. I'm thinking over his 5 week break this summer of doing an almost no carb thing, to see if I can once and for all make a dent in some of this. Guest guest
Hi Amy, and Thanks Dana too. Maybe it is yeast. But he doesn't have any other symptoms, no rash, no thrush. BM's look fine. I was wondering about chlorine and swimming. I saw another post about chlorine increasing yeast and we did just start back to the pool at about the time this started. I also saw that giggling is a yeast thing and this body slamming is accompanied by a lot of silliness and giggling. Which made me think it is just a behavior thing, but maybe yeast? I also wondered about phenol. That was a culprit with head banging in the past. But he is not aggressive now, just sensory seeking and silly. He doesn't take No Phenol, but he doesn't have too much that would be phenolic (don't know if that is the right word) maybe the occasional banana. When we had trouble before, he was on a banana kick and ate them all the time. We're already pretty high protein, low carb. Also, Dana, he already is on the AFP and Zyme Prime, so I don't think it's the papin etc. I will lower the brainchild, just to see about the hyperactivity. But could he have yeast trouble with no other symptoms? Thanks for all you input! I'm sure we'll figure this out. I need to go back to taking notes on everything and charting again, I guess. ------------------------------------- My kids sensory issues (which include versions of both these issues) are always due to yeast. Guest guest
My son only had rash/thrush when he was nursing. Since then his only symptoms have been behavioral. So it's possible. Yeast accounts for almost all his behaviors at this point, and mainly includes sensory, primarily auditory and visual aversions/stims, growling/verbal stims, insomnia, and silliness. Amy > Maybe it is yeast. But he doesn't have any other symptoms, no rash, > no thrush. BM's look fine.

There was a turning point in my son's recovery when yeast stopped producing physical symptoms and started producing only behavioral " brain " symptoms. >>I was wondering about chlorine and > swimming. Guest guest
Thank you so much for your reply. Guest guest
A type of medication - selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. GSE can block its absorption.
