Guest guest
dont / never lose faith! my son is 8 and not talking (apraxic). my best advice: get thorough eval from very experienced speech pathologist based on recommendations in that eval, develop iep goals reflecting request speech, on iep, as frequent as possible (e.g., 30 mins daily) if able to afford it, and depending on frequendcy of speech school will do, hire your own pvt speech pathologist (you definitely get what you pay for!) because of the diag of apraxia, my son gets speech 30 mins daily (for consistency). also, my son sees a speech pathologist ph.d. privately (has been for two yrs.) my son babbles constantly. is able to make many vowel and consonants sounds. his pvt speech path. specializes in working with apraxic children. she's been in the business for ever! my son will, however, say some words when prompted. however, he is not conversational. right now, i would say he has about 15 words in his vocab. however, it took years of therapy. i have heard some say that high lead levels affects speech. dont know if you have chelated or thought of it or what your child's lead levels are. some have been helped with omega 3 oils. fortunately, my son is good cognitively and reception lang is real good. when looking for a pvt speech patho. you want someone who understands auditory bombadment. you also might want to look into one of the listening programs. my son went thru a tomatis type auditory processing program. did wonders for him with receptive language which some say comes first. i know it is very hard and can sometimes be disheartening, but, there is hope! i also have heard of some children speaking find when they reach puberty. take care, and hang in there! vicki
Guest guest
Does he make any noise. Have him sign if he does not speak. Hold up something he wants bad to eat and have him sign eat. Take hand and put to mouth. Make him request every bite. If he wants a bit he must sign eat if he cannot manually do it and then give it. I read sign langauge works the same part of the brain as talking. It will help w/ motor planning Verbal BX training only way to go nne- -- In , rana dwedari <rdwedari@y...> wrote: > My son is already 4 years old and not talking yet. Please i need any advice, any help............ > please help me > > > --------------------------------- > for Good > Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. > >
Guest guest
Rana, Every child is so different its hard to know what will and won't work. All you can do is try several different approaches. And, even if your son NEVER actually speaks, he will be able to communicate! We started with sign language and moved into lots of verbal modeling. We also used some PECS just for transitions and such (never for requests). Chase made some approximations at around 2 years of age...but, nothing really functional. He did use some sign language (more, drink, eat, please). We got Baby Bumble Bee videos and let him watch those over and over and handed him the " real " object each time it was shown on the TV. His real language didn't come in until 2 1/2-3 years of age. He uses alot of delayed functional echolalia. I think if I were you, I would focus on pictures of real things and start with food choices. At the very least, it will reduce his stress and anxiety when he wants something. Guest guest
Did you try chelation? We did diet, enzymes, supplements and chelation. Chelation (oral DMSA and oral ALA, low dose, every 3 hrs) made my son talk. He was diagnosed with severe autism, and severe oral and motor apraxia too. He first said sounds (like the 'o' sound), then simple words, then put two words together. He now talks in full sentences and is even bilingual. He lost his apraxia diagnosis and is no more speech delayed. > My son is already 4 years old and not talking yet. Please i need any advice, any help............ > please help me > > > --------------------------------- > for Good > Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. > >

Guest guest
Hi, have you had your son evaluated by a Developmental Pediatrician to get a diagnosis? Has he been diagnosed with autism or verbal apraxia? If he has autism there are many great biomedical therapies out there. My advice is to do your research. I would visit the autismresearchintitute.com and defeatautismnow website and read up. Visit groups: gfcfkids, chelatingkids2, abmd. What has worked for us is: gfcf diet, supplements (codliveroil, supernuthera, magnesium, zinc, b3-niacinmide,dmg, methylb12shots, and most recently probiotics). ABA therapy, OT, and chiropractic care have been very helpful as well. I have friends that have had success on the feingold diet, too. Any diets and supplements should be added on a slow progression with dosing advice from a DAN! doctor. I would look at the DAN!Doctor list and find one in your state that you could take your child to for an evaluation. My son's diagnosis is pddnos (autistic spectrum), was nonverbal 10 months ago, from all the above therapies now has over 100 single words and 3 word sentences emerging, he is 3. I have a cousin with 3 boys all with verbal apraxia at different severities. Her middle child didn't start talking until he was 4 years old... he is now 9 and speaking beautifully and is very bright. Best of luck to you as I know what it's like to be there > > > > > > > My son is already 4 years old and not talking yet. Please i need > any > > advice, any help............ > > > please help me > > > > > > > > > --------------------------------- > > > for Good > > > Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. > > > > > >
Guest guest
> My son is already 4 years old and not talking yet. Please i need any advice, any help............ What my son required for speech/language is written here http://www.danasview.net/issues.htm For my son, anti-virals are ESSENTIAL for speech. He recently got a cold virus, which spent 2 days as a regular cold virus and then went into his brain, causing my son to regress over a period of only 4 hours. Nasty stuff! Fortunately, OLE and ViraStop/AFP Peptizyde are working on it. Chelation was also important, as well as several other things listed on my page above.
