Guest guest
A homemade concoction of citronelal-type plants is said to repel mosquitos and the like. I, just today, purchased the bulk herbs to make my own. It contains lavender (highly recommended), lemonbalm, lemongrass, eucalyptus. You can purchase the oils of plants, but I am not sure of the solvents in them. Wormwood oil, citronella oil, eucalyptus oil, rosemary oil and lavender oil are listed in a favorite book of mine for insect repellants. Chickweed is great for any type of skin itch as an aftercare for bites. Hope you find something useful here other than the toxic OFF. Guest guest
There seems to be an abundance of biting insects. Each year it seems worse. I wonder if it does not have to do with the fact that the pesticides (800 billion gallons each year in the U.S.) have forced the thousands of generations of insects to build immunity to them and ultimately grow in number? I also wonder what other natural predators have been imbalanced, causing complications throughout the insect and natural world. The algae and parasite populations in our waterways have been grossly altered...
Guest guest
Tee Heee. You are sweet to offer a compliment. Now my PC & " Yaheck " are not being so sweet. Silly computer just pootered out again. In the midst of it I was replying to your note regarding the use of Citronella. ***Will the copy/paste work...cross your fingers* Can we use citronella in toiltries? I know it is safe in candles. Are there any negative effects w/ using it on the skin? Oh...It did work! So....we are off and running on more buggy ideas! Guest guest
We use Avon's Skin So Soft Bath Oil quite successfully. It works on your doggie's too! I just buy it bulk and put it in a spray bottle and spray the kids down before sending them outside. Avon claims it's not an insect repellent, however, many people do say it works and my FIL has been using it successfully as that for years in his horse barn to keep flies and mosquitos off the horses during summer months. Only my 2 cents worth and not saying this will work for you. Some may be concerned about it's ingredients which are: MINERAL OIL ISOPROPYL PALMITATE DICAPRYL ADIPATE FRAGRANCE DIOCTYL SODIUM SULFOSUCCINATE BHT DAUCUS CAROTA SATIVA (CARROT) SEED OIL
