Guest guest
OK...my 5-yo son Evan had an ION Profile test which showed him to have an overgrowth of some type of Clostridia species. So, our DAN! doctor recommended the following: Lauricidin (which is currently at a minimal dose 1x/day, but eventually will need to go higher and more frequent); Pro Bio Gold (even though there is no yeast problem, it was recommended to make sure to maintain good bacteria in the gut), currently at the dosage of 1/4 capsule at bedtime mixed into applesauce; Culturelle (same reason as the Pro Bio Gold, although I think it might also be for the Clostidia), which we have not yet started; activated charcoal (to minimize die-off symptoms) up to 5 capsules per day (currently giving 1/2 capsule in the AM, and 1/2 in the PM, to get him used to it; I have been mixing it into applesauce with a good amount of honey to cover up the taste, and he does eat it that way). Additionally, he is on the following supplement regimen: DRN Basic Vitamin/Mineral Supplement 3/8 tsp 2x/day; Folinic Acid w/B12 (1/4 tsp 2x/day); Liquid Iron (1/4 tsp in AM; 1/8 tsp in PM); P5P (12.5 mg 2x/day); B-6 (25 mg 2x/day); Vitamin C (250 mg in AM; 125 mg in PM, in addition to the total of over 500 mg that is in the DRN supplement); CLO (2500 IU in AM; 1250 IU in PM); ProOmega supplement (1 gel cap in AM; 1 gel cap in PM); Calcium supplement in the evening, if needed to supplement dietary Calcium; Methyl B12 injections (every 3 nights); Adenosyl B12 injections, (also every 3 nights); Glutathione cream (2x/day); Naltrexone cream (nightly). We are also supposed to start a custom amino acid supplement, which we have at home, but haven't yet started. Additionally, Evan takes 1 capsule of No-Fenol and 1 capsule of Enzyme Complete/DPPIV with each meal. Also, Evan follows the GFCF diet, and is also egg-free, as per the IgG food panel. He is not on a rotation diet, but we try to alternate between different types of milk (soy, rice, almond, hazelnut) and grains (corn, rice, quinoa), to avoid further food sensitivities and keep current mild sensitivities " in check. " We are supposed to increase his Omega 6 with some Borage Oil also, but haven't ordered that yet. I have also been trying to alternate tomato sauce with olive oil for his GF pasta, due to him showing a need for that type of fatty acid in his body. We use Smart Balance Omega GFCF margarine, as well as Smart Balance Omega Peanut Butter for many/most of his sandwiches. We are not currently chelating nor are we using hyperbaric oxygen therapy or sound therapy as yet. He does get brushed at school, and we have recently started doing it at home as well. He also wears a pressure vest at school but does not wear one at home. He is in an ABA-based school, although I do not think that is really what he gets...I think it is more like DTT combined with ST, OT, SI, and PT, as well as music, art, and PE. His teacher recently talked me into letting them use edible reinforcers (GFCF popcorn, GFCF/Egg-free pretzels and GFCF/Egg-free chocolate cookies at present). Anyway...he also had recently trained himself to use the toilet when needing to go #2. He did it all on his own 5 days after starting to take Kirkman's Enzyme Complete/DPPIV. Recently, he appears to be backsliding...pretty much as soon as we started the Lauricidin and Pro Bio Gold. At first it was diarrhea, but since starting some activated charcoal, it is more formed. However, last night he went in the bed (once he trained himself, he was also getting up out of bed to get to the bathroom). This hasn't happened in a while (he trained himself in late August). Is this backsliding a result of bacterial " die-off? " I don't know how much slower I can go with the new supplements. The Lauricidin is at ONE (1) pellet per day; the Pro Bio Gold is at 1/4 capsule/day; and the activated charcoal is at 1/2 capsule 2x/day. And, eventually I'll have to increase the dosage, if I want to get rid of this bacterial overgrowth of Evan's. The other supplements and diets that Evan is on are directly based on results of the ION Profile and the IgG food panel (except the GFCF diet...but apparently his gut is in very bad shape from the Clostridia, and he is having major malabsorption problems, so the doctor said that we had to stay on that diet, even though it didn't seem to do much for him behaviorally...otherwise, we were going to drop the diet). The Naltrexone is the only medication that we're not sure if he needs...but it did seem to increase his vocalizations and make him sick less often (with colds and such). The MB12, the AB12, the Glutathione, and other supplements were indicated by the ION Profile. Another problem that seems to have started since adding the Lauricidin, probiotic, and activated charcoal is that Evan has been crying more and sticking his fingers in his nose as if there's something in there, even though there's nothing (at least nothing obvious). The MB12 has probably made him happier in general (it had that effect when he was first on it, before we knew for sure that he needed it on a biological level), so I can only imagine what he'd be like without it. Are these above-highlighted problems just initial " die-off? " If so, how long until they stop?? Thanks for any input:) Laurel ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Sponsored Link Compare mortgage rates for today.
