Guest guest
Arathi, Interesting.... I know just what you are talking about. Funny thing is my daughter gets very agitated at both the full and new moons. The majority of people, including my husband, think I am completely insane when I talk about this. My daughter has very pronounced sensory integration problems and reacts very strongly to gravity. Gravitational pulls from the moon and the sun are most pronounced when they are aligned with the Earth. During a new moon, the sun and moon are on the same side of the earth and during a full moon, they are on opposite sides of the earth. Perhaps this distinction is the reason for your son's differential reaction to the full and new moons. In any case, I'm quite certain it's gravity he's reacting to. I don't think there is much you can do except just be aware that it's coming and pay attention to his cues for sensory stimulation. My daughter feels much better during these times doing intense vestibular activities. Guest guest
How amazing, I have notice a general agitation and impatience in myself during full moon and of course there is so much literature on this. Even correctional officers have noted a particular increase population in detention center during full moon. I have not paid attention to new moon phases and nor have I observed my son during either of these times. It is only logical that each person responds differently to this but I am certain most people go through mood changes one way or another. This does makes perfect sense. Our bodies are composed mostly of water and anything causing tidal changes could effect body's water distribution and thus the chemistry. Thank you for this thread. Guest guest
Isn't is fascinating, Haleh? There are some other variables that come into play, further complicating things. Since the moon does not orbit earth, but orbits the sun along with the earth, this causes variations in orbit. Sometimes the moon rises in the Southeast, elevating to only about 10 degrees above the horizon in the south, and then set in the Southwest. At other times it will rise in the Northeast, ascend to around 60 degrees elevation above the horizon at it most southerly point, and then sink in the Northwest. This second condition is known as a high northerly lunar declination. The gravitational pull of the moon is far higher at such times, producing higher tides. Also, the moon does not follow a uniform circular orbit. At apogee (the highest point) it is over 30,000 miles father than at perigree (the closest point to earth). When perigee occurs, the lunar gravitational field pull is also increased, producing even higher sea levels. I have noticed my daughter's behaviors are significantly worse if both of these other factors are present with the full or new moon. Yes, I am nutty to notice these things, but there is really something to it! Guest guest
, Haleh: Thanks for the sharing and mentioning that vestibular activities helps during this time. I will try this with my son. Guest guest
I love the fact that you have paid so much attention to this. I like to know what kind of behaviors. Just keep me posted. Guest guest
I'll second that and Haleh. I've been keeping a record on a daily calendar for several years now for my daughter's behaviors ever since she hit puberty. I definitely see spikes in aggressive incidents, verbal perseveration and OCD type behaviors around the full moon and the new moon. I personally can feel tightness across my head during the full moon time. This is definitely interesting! Re: Impact of Lunar Phases & Evening Sun on Bahvior Isn't is fascinating, Haleh? Thank you so very much, Arathi, for bringing up this information (and to all those who chimed in later with their own observations). It completely validates the words to a Moon chant that I found myself writing a couple of weeks ago, a few days before the last full moon. I was reflecting on the effect the moon has on the Earth's bodies of water, and how, as Haleh pointed out: > Our bodies are composed mostly of water and anything causing tidal > changes could effect body's water distribution and thus the chemistry. I knew that it was " common folk knowledge " in Western (European) countries that people become " looney " around the full moon (Luna), but with some online research, I found that some Eastern mythologies consider the full moon to be a peaceful and calming influence. The lyrics of " my " chant are about using the moon's energy to calm our minds, but I wasn't really confident of the validity of this until your email arrived. Thank you again for the confirmation! Best wishes, Lalita

She appears to have high hormone levels already though, estrogen in particular. > orbit earth, but orbits the sun along with the earth, this causes > variations in orbit. Thank you so much for this info. My body is so sensitive to the phases of the moon that I've had to know what phase it's in almost daily, since puberty, and a very famous psychiatrist was convinced when I was young that my severe sensory issues must be a result of having been ritually abused in a cult, for this same reason. (3 cheers for 'better diagnostics.') Amy
