Guest guest
I have a question for everyone. Ever since my CFS has begun, about 9 months ago, I have suffered from very dry eyes and now also from a dry mouth. My eye doctor tested me and told me that I do have extremely dry eyes, as for the mouth, it was on and off and now, while I am taking medication to dissolve gallstones, it has gotten much worse, my lips feel extremely dry both inside and outside, sticking to my teeth, and the sides and tip of my tongue feel irritated and uncomfortable, although my mouth is full of saliva, a bit thicker than usual, but I had that problem when I was pregnant 16 and 14 years ago as well, profuse thick saliva, which was hormonal and went away right after giving birth. In any event my doctor mentioned something called sjogren's syndrome which I gather is an autoimmune disease that can be progressive and gives you a greater chance of lymphomas in many cases. I had the two blood tests for it SSa and SSb and they both came back negative but as my doctor said that I do have a slightly higher protein in my blood I should take another test as I might still have it in some form. Have any of you suffered with these symptoms? I mean really dry eyes needing drops every half hour to an hour...feeling gritty when you get up in the middle of the night to the bathroom, or the dry in and outside lips (vaseline is helping). Do any of you have or know about sjogrens related or unrelated to CFS? My doctor said that it would also explain the lowgrade fever, occasional joint pains and extreme fatigue, although as we all know these are also signs of CFS. In any event, any information, including remedies, natural and other, would be welcome. Thanks Judy Baumel
Guest guest
Kim, for my son PJ, () the fevers came before the ear infections and subsequent tubes. The first unexplained fever came at 6 months, the ear infections peaked at about 12-18 months and he got ear tubes at 22 months. I have never felt there was a link between the two. He does have some allergies, ragweed being the worst but none to any foods, milk, etc. Pat, mom to PJ, 12 yo, FMF, Virginia __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Kim. My name is . My son J.J. has never had symptoms of any allergies and he has only had 1 ear infection ever. I have never heard of a link personally. How often did your daughter get ear infections? Maybe the infections were masking the periodic fevers? I'm not sure what to tell you. I did think however that a lot of children with periodic fevers do not get normal childhood illnesses as often as others without the fevers. We were at the allergist yesterday and come to find out is allergic to milk along with the common stuff like dust, dust mite, cats. The doctor said that kids with allergies are the kids that develope frequent ear infections and require tubes. Which was the case for as well as my other children. And it kind of makes sense now that I think about it. My son, who is autisic, got tubes. My eldest daughter Haley got tubes and now . Come to find out recently, Haley and tested positive for milk allergy. I don't know about Josh, but I read an article on Parents.com today about how this lady took her son who was diagnosed as being autistic off of milk and gluten. He got better and they could not say that he was autistic anymore. So he may be allergic as well. got her tubes in October then in December the fevers started. She never had any unexplained fevers before the tubes. Anyone else have this link? Or know something I don't in regards to this? Guest guest
She has had Sinusitis about 2 times (fever as well) treated with antibiotics and it went away. Her ear infections though lasted about 4-5 months. She continually had fluid behind her membrane. No matter what antibiotic they tried it would not clear up, so she got tubes. Now that you mention it she hasn't had a " cold " or the stomach bug, flu or anything. I can't remember if she ever tested positive for strep, certainly hasn't tested positive since the fevers started. She is just really healthy when she doesn't have the fevers. Spoke with the I & D doctor yesterday about her labs, all were normal (not surprising). They didn't do any genetic testing though. Just blood, chem panels and Ig and antibody titers. SO FRUSTRATING! Thanks for the info. kim -2 Josh- 9 PDD-NOS Haley- 5 Bre- 10m Do any of your children with have allergies? Guest guest
Hi Kim, My son had two ear infections before his fevers began, and before he was 10 months old. He had two fevers after 10 months that they diagnosed as hand, foot, and mouth - then possibly roseola. He did not fever again until he was 16 months old. Then his fevers became regular every 6 weeks. Oddly at the beginning of July he did not get his fever as anticipated (I was hoping for a miracle) but instead got a mild cold (his first ever). The cold resolved in a few days, and about a week later he developed an ear infection. The ear infection did not go away and we took him in and the prescribed more antibiotics. After that the ear infection again started to return and had scheduled him another visit to the doctor when he got his fever. It took me a long time to only half way convince the doctors that his fever was seperate and not caused by his ear infection. His doctor's have thus far written off his other fevers as viruses. I talked to them in length about his whole fever history - and I think I got one doctor to at least consent that he may have a fever syndrome, but again they want to make sure his ear infection clears up before they tackle the fevers. We are scheduled to go back in two weeks to see if the ear infection is all the way cleared up/fluid gone. If not then we will go to the ENT doc. A few other things I have noted is that my son has a very limited and muffled vocabulary for 22 months, and he often has labored breathing (not asthma like). I also discussed this with the doc and concluded it was possible he had enlarged adenoids which would cause breathing trouble, and ear problems. Did your daughter also have speech delay? My family in general has a history of speech delays so it has not really started to concern me until now. I also have two nephews with ear tubes. It seems that a lot of people on this board have had problems with ear infections. Just something to keep in mind going forward. Good luck to you, your family, and your little girl. Guest guest
Oh no, she has no problem at all with speech. Matter of fact I think she is advance in that area. I am expierienced with speech delay because of my son. He had chronic ear infections and fluid as a baby. We were young and didn't know any better to put our foot down and say enough is enough! So it was about 1 1/2 yrs of age when we finally got to see ENT. I seriously think he was delayed because of his autisim and not so much the ear infections. Cause most kids with ear infections that get tubes have a tremendous turn around in their speech. That wasn't the case with him. Up until last year he has been in speech therapy. Well the last 2 years were Language delay more than speech delay. I definetely think you need to get your little one some tubes. Hopefully that will clear up his speech. Good luck with the doctors. I'm thankful for my ped. All I have to do is make an appointment with the specialist and they write the referral. But you are your childs advocate. Just get into defense mode and say this is it! It worked for me after 6 months of " it's just a virus " NOT, cause no one else is getting it. That made no sense to me. Kim Do any of your > children with have allergies? Guest guest
I have tried enzymes on my son but I cannot figure out how to do this specifically. Should I try peptizyde first or hn-zyme prime first? or no-fenol? And the dosing... since my son gets very aggressive, I would have to start in VERY small doses. My son is 22 years old so very aggressive is not good at all. Perhaps I should start with the powdered versions of these products? I'm sure this question has been asked and answered before, sorry I have not been on for a long time, I have been limiting my online time to looking to secure better employment since I lost my job about 3 years ago. Better employment has been elusive in my field...
Guest guest
I forgot Duh!! Condoms are a good protection against STD and diseases such as Hep C and AIDS. If used properly.
