Guest guest
Hi Niki, I am also from Philly. What neuro did you see? We saw one at CHOP. She wasn't very helpful, but the plastic surgeon is really great. Laurie ('s mom)
Guest guest
Niki: I'm glad to hear that he will see you in a months time. The only other thing I suggest you do is to take photos of the babies heads. Top, both sides, front, back. That way in a months time you will be able to see for sure (not "I think I see") if there has been any improvement. Are the twins able to roll from front to back on their own? If so then I think it's OK to put them on their tummies, but if not, I would personally recommend you use rolled towels and such to reposition on the back. Studies show that babies who are used to sleeping on their backs, and then suddenly put to sleep on their tummies are more susceptible to SIDS. Keep in touch, and let us know of any improvement! ) Kendra in Canada ----- Original Message ----- From: niki_jay175@... Plagiocephaly Sent: Saturday, February 03, 2001 11:01 AM Subject: What the Nuero Said... Well, we met with the nuero this morning. As soon as we took the twins hats off he said, "oh this is nothing!' Apparently Kaylie and Danny have a mild case of plagio and he too ruled out tort. He said he has no reason to believe that their heads won't round out on there own, however, he doesn't want us feeling like we didn't do everything possible for our babies. So he told to start putting the babies on their tummies to sleep as long as we were right there with them. He also told us that he thinks in a few years pediatricians won't be so forceful about putting babies on their backs to sleep because of plagio. So anyway, he wants us to come back in a month after having the babies on their tummies. If we don't see any improvement in that time or we still feel that we want to do the helmet or band, then he will write us a script for it. He doesn't want to wait any longer than a month because he doesn't want them to be older than 6 months. All in all, I feel comfortable with this doctor and I think I will stick with him. (Let's see if I still say that next month!)Thank you all for listening to me ramble!NikiKaylie & Danny (Phila., PA)
Guest guest
Hi Laurie! We saw Dr. Ness at St. 's Hospital. He was really nice and informative. I like the fact that he didn't dismiss us after seeing that the twins had a mild case. Where about in Philly do you live? We are in northeast Philadelphia. Kendra, Thank you for the advice about taking pictures. I hadn't thought about that. More importantly, I had never heard of back sleepers turned tummy sleepers were more susceptible to SIDS. It gets so nerve racking because we try to do everything that we are told to do for our kids to keep them safe (sleep on backs) and then to have plagio happen and then they tell us go ahead sleep on the tummy! Argh! I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this: My husband in the beginning thought I was looking for something to be wrong and that I was too critical. He has finally come around and believes we should go ahead and get the helmet/band.(we're not sure which one we'll get.) Anyway, now he says that when we go out (which is rare) the babies will NOT wear the helmet. I feel they should wear it all the time. How can I get him to feel the same? Sheesh, rambling again! Guest guest
niki: I think that once your hubby gets used to the idea of the babies in their helmets, he'll warm up to the idea of going out with them on. They really do look cute in them after you get used to it. Kendra in Canada ----- Original Message ----- From: irisheyes175@... Guest guest
Niki that is wonderful! This way, if their heads to round out on their own, ('s did a little) then you don't have the major expense of the bands and the frustrations! But it is still early enough that you would get great results from a band! Great News! Kim and , Raleigh, NC -----Original Message----- From: niki_jay175@...
