Guest guest
Dawn...Dr. Buttram is our family physician. He is located at Woodlands Healing Research Center, in Quakertown, PA. His views and research on vaccines and the bodies responses to them are what led me to him, as we do not vaccinate, and look for alternative healing methods. His partner is Dr. Kracht, who has also written several papers and contributed to many books. I think Dr. Buttram is a wonderful man, very knowledgeable, and thank God he is there...but he is getting on in age now, and sometimes he strikes me as being a little forgetful, or not all " with it " . Dr. Kracht is quite younger (he is also a D.O) and I now request him for any appointments I may have. Anyway, it is possible that Dr.Buttram never really involved himself with the study of the vitamin K shots, and therefore they are not of much concern to him. Perhaps you would like to direct your question to Dr. Kracht, and see if he has any concerns...Sharon Vit. Guest guest
Dr. Buttrum is our family physician too - sweet man. I've met Dr. Kracht, but never went to him. We don't do well baby visits and Dr. Buttrum agrees they aren't necessary, while Kracht feels they are. A friend of mine sees Kracht and he got all worked up bc she wouldn't give her 4 month old, exclusively breastfed baby iron supplements - he sort of gave her a hard time about that and also about not coming in for well baby visits. I really like Buttrum and his 'old school' ways. Maybe Kracht will have a different take on Vit. K then Buttrum did, maybe you could ask him next time you see him? I still feel the Vit. K is not necessary, I thought I would get a different response from Buttrum, who knows really why I didn't. -Dawn Vit. Guest guest
I agree that Dr.Kracht can be difficult at times. I LOVED Dr. Singer, an MD who was only with the practice for a short time. He once told me that he would never vaccinate his children. He had to leave the practice because Dr. Kracht told him there wasn't enough money for him to be there too. Boo-Hoo! Anyway, I think some of Dr.Krachts' practices are based on $$, so I take some of what he says with the old 'grain of salt'. It is very hard to find a doctor that one agrees with completely. I love Dr. Buttram, but like I said, sometimes he's not all there...Sharon Vit. Guest guest
I asked the same question to my transplant coordinator yesterday. She said that with an impaired liver, it wouldn't do any good. My platelet count is 38, and I would love for it to go up, but I'm afraid that it's not my liver that is causing the platelet problem but my spleen. I guess that if one had a smaller spleen, that it could work. Guest guest
AAAAAAH! I let them give him Vit. K! Now he has jaundice! Every day they are bleeding his little feet dry. This has been the longest week of my life. Thankfully they didn't give me any grief over no Hep B. shot, because there was no way I was giving in on that one. And now I am reading that the bili lights will give him cancer? What do I do? And my ped says to supplement with formula. I have just kept nursing and not told her anything. And the count is going down. But when was I supposed to add some formula into his diet? He is nursing every 1 1/2 hours and if I would give him formula, it would have slowed down his nursing. ARGH! Guest guest
Had the same week your having with my son. I didn't supplement with formula and the jaundice went away! I too wondered if the vit K was at fault. If your baby is feeding and looking better you should be getting rid of the jaundice! I havent ever heard of the bili (causing cancer)? Where did you read that. Hang in there C Mand@... wrote: AAAAAAH! I let them give him Vit. K! Now he has jaundice! Every day they are bleeding his little feet dry. Guest guest
-, don't let the doctors/nurses bully you into " supplementing " with formula. They are paid big kickbacks to encourage you to feed with formula. Watch your diet and make good milk, he will be fine. Trust your instincts and stand your ground! Guest guest
After a wonderful home birth, I had a nightmare couple of days in the hospital with the same thing - jaundice. And my daughter did not have the Vit. K shot. Hers was due to incompatibility of our blood types. I had to finger feed her with my breastmilk because she was very lethargic and could not latch on. The nurses kept coming in and telling me I had to give her formula or she would die and lab techs kept coming in to poke her feet. I was so exhausted from trying to keep them all away; I finally screamed at the top of my lungs like a madwoman. They all just stopped in their tracks and looked at me like I was some kind of insane criminal, then they actually stayed away from me - I think they were afraid of me. Instead they sent in a nurse-midwife, lactation expert who was very helpful. It really pays to be a crazy woman when you need to be! I've never heard of the bili causing cancer, either. Do you have a source for that? Now I am not sure if I actually read that the " bili lights " cause cancer, because I think I mixed it up with the post linking the Vit. K shot and Leukemia, but at least one post in the Mothering board discussion talks about the known hazards of exposure to the lights. Sorry for the confusion! Guest guest
Anyone know of good sources of vit. K? Thanks much.
Guest guest
Best food sources of vitamin K are green leafy vegetables. I'm not sure how you get them down into picky eater kids though! (Re-introduce Pop-eye maybe?) I have to take a prescription vitamin K formula called Mephyton twice a week or I get purple spots (like blood blisters) on my arms from very minor trauma. Kids with celiac or IgA deficiency may have problems getting enough vitamin K, it is an oil-soluble vitamin. Talk to your pediatrician, they may be aware of this. Some little babies have even had strokes from insufficient K. Peace, Kathy E. > > Anyone know of good sources of vit. K?
