Guest guest
Hi Jenn, We are no longer using SCD, because we switched to enzymes. I think we probably should have stayed on SCD a bit longer with the enzymes, but we have not done it. My son has OCD/Tourettes. He was 8 when we did the diet--he is 10 now. At that time, he never would play with children outside of our family. If other children came over, he would play near them, and talk to his brothers and sisters, but never really interacted with the other children. After being on SCD for two weeks, I babysat for a friend. I was so amazed to see actually playing with, and talking to, the other children! He began interacting with the children his age at church instead of standing around with his older siblings. His OCD symptoms also decreased to the point where I'd say they disappeared. He became more conversational. He would always talk if you talked to him, or he would ask a question or make a comment, but he never really had an actual conversation. That has changed. In fact, his siblings say he now talks too much!! He is not just in his own little world anymore. Our biggest problem now is fighting yeast; also, I think he has viral issues that need to be addressed. So his symptoms tend to come and go, depending on where we are with those issues. > > , > Can I ask if you are still doing the SCD? If so, what gains have you seen after 8 months? If not, why? Thanks for your time anmswering this. Jenn L > >
Guest guest
I wanted to ask what SCD did for your little one because even though we have seen decreased behaviors, one of my biggest hopes is that the diet will help her talk. I haven't seen it yet. I am thinking the chemical exchange of the parasites, yeasts, and viral & bacterial infections she has, is actually causing her language to not come out. What enzymes do you use? I need to get K to eat whatever she will at this point because she has been stuck on just eating chicken & eggs for the last 3 months straight. She is also still quite constipated. I'm sure Kali's ped. GI Dr. will also have some suggestions about what to use as far as enzymes and supplements go. Thanks . Guest guest
We use Houston's, AFP Peptizide, No Fenol and Zyme Prime--we use the SCD version of all of these--the capsules. I make chocolate wafers mixed w/enzymes, because he will not swallow capsules. We did have the usual regression for a couple of weeks as he adjusted to the enzymes, but that passed and we saw improvement. jenn kjhi <help4kali@...> wrote: What enzymes do you use? Guest guest
Can you please tell me how much of which enzyme you started with first and how much you are giving now? That seems like quite a lot of enzymes and $. God bless you! Guest guest
Yes, I think we have both--the Tourettes symptoms have actually been gone for some time now, but the OCD pops up off and on. Hoping to address the viral next. danasview <danasview@...> wrote: > My son has OCD/Tourettes. For my kids, #2's OCD was viral, and #1's Tourettes was yeast. Guest guest
We started with all three Houston's enzymes, asking for the SCD version in each one. We began with half a capsule of each with each meal/snack. We worked up to a full capsule of each at each meal/snack. We have been using them for two years, and no longer give them every time he eats something. At first I always mixed them in juice because he will not swallow capsules (part of the OCD thing). For about the last two months I've been mixing them in melted chocalate and making wafers. I've found that they seem to be more effective this way, even though he is no longer getting a full capsule's worth in each wafer. I will mix about 8 capsules of each enzyme in the chocolate, and usually end up with 12 to 15 wafers. It did seem like a lot of money at first, but eating the SCD diet was very expensive, as we are a family of 6, and we do not eat any conventionally raised beef, in order to avoid the effects of the hormones on my daughters. We do not get all our food from health food stores, but I do spend quite a bit there every two weeks. Also, at the time we started the SCD, we were spending a lot on many different supplements for my son, most of which we were able to discontinue after starting enzymes. We also always avoid high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, and monosodium glutamate (MSG). MSG causes extreme rage behavior in my son. So in order to avoid those things, we already spend more than ordinary--in the long run, the monthly amount on enzymes is less than the additional costs incurred eating SCD. Also, it is nice to be able to order a pizza sometimes! I'm going to try Olive leaf extract and virastop on him next, to see if we can eliminate the OCD. Even though it is very mild now, there are days when it flares up. Since his biggest behavior is having to touch siblings (and sometimes Mom), the entire family would like to see it go away. jenn kjhi <help4kali@...> wrote: Can you please tell me how much of which enzyme you started with first and how much you are giving now? Guest guest
, So enzymes, supplements and SCD were the only things you were doing with him? I'm just wondering if you were using ooo, gse, or coconut oil at all while you were doing these? Guest guest
No, I did not use any of these until recently, with the exception of OoO, which our family always uses whenever we get sick. That was the only thing we used it for back then. It was not until I joined this list in late 05 that I knew about using OoO or GSE for his symptoms. jenn kjhi <help4kali@...> wrote: , So enzymes, supplements and SCD were the only things you were doing with him? I use Natural Factors brand, from my local health food store. I buy it as 500mg capsules. Dana
