Guest guest
Well, this is extremely timely as I was going to cross post this question to several lists. My HFA son will be 12, and when he went last year for his 11 year old check up, the pedi wanted to give him the DTAP vaccine booster. I hemmed and hawed and refused. I believe it was the Boostrix. They assured me there was no thimerasol, but I still refused. However, I know it will come up again at our upcoming physical, adn eventually the school will be looking for documentation. My DAN suggested I ask for titers first, which I plan to do. She said tetanus could be a real danger, but to first check and see if he has the immunity. So why is the DTAP problematic? Is is just because it's possibly an unnecessary vaccine? Obviously, I didn't become saavy to the risks of vaccines until recently. And now that we've worked so hard to get him on the road to recovery, I certainly don't want to do anything to muck it up. What if the titers show no immunity? Should I go ahead and vaccinate him? TIA for all your erudite opinions.
