Guest guest Posted June 25, 2001 Report Share Posted June 25, 2001 Well the clear glycerin that I'm talking about isn't the same as the stuff that's labeled as vegetable glycerin, it's thinner and more expensive. I get my vegetable glycerin at the drug store or the health food store and it's not expensive, $5 for 8oz. I had done a search for vegetable glycerin before, I know alot of places sell it, however the clear glycerin is different and it specifies on the bottle that it is used for cosmetics and it is more expensive and harder to find. ~**~ glycerin is vegetable glycerin.. They both work and it's a matter of choice. I had quite an argument with a woman in a pharmacy once when I asked if the bottle I bought was of vegetable origin. She said all glycerins were (while looking down her nose at me) so i took great pleasure in telling her where it really came from. Ivory dishwashing liquid,place in gal. jug fill with water to make one gallon of shampoo. There are two types: vegetable-oil derived and animal-fat derived. On a molecular level, they are they same. If the bottle does not specify, it is usually of animal origin. Vegetable derived glycerine can be found in health food stores. There is a synthetic glycerine made from petroleum called propylene glycol. Glycerine is a humectant, meaning it attracts water.
