Guest guest
Dana, on Monday, it will be 2 weeks since my son started Nystatin. How long does it take to firm up his poop ( which is really soft, light colored mush )if it is going to?? Also, if it is going to help him sleep better at night, how long would it take to do that? or at this point, should I accept the fact that the Nystatin won't do either of those things, and I will continue to get no sleep, and consider his mushy poop to be a food or supplement intolerance??? Or, does it typically take Nystatin longer to help these? Thanks. Amber.

You probably should have seen at least *something* by now, altho I have read stories from other parents that Nystatin takes months. > Also, if it is going to help him sleep better at night, how long would > it take to do that? Same comment as above. >>or at this point, should I accept the fact that the > Nystatin won't do either of those things, and I will continue to get no > sleep, and consider his mushy poop to be a food or supplement > intolerance??? Might be intolerance. Might be something like zinc deficiency, which can cause mushy bms, and it will reduce high copper levels, and high copper can cause sleep issues. I know parents who have added zinc and their child's bms improved and the child started sleeping better. High calcium levels for my son, caused both those problems. So it might be a deficiency or toxicity, and not a food. Dana
Guest guest
> > I give him two kirkman zinc capsules a day, one at breakfast, and one at > lunch. Should I increase that? How many mg is that? You can increase to child's weight plus 20mg if desired. So for a 50 pound child, for example, you can increase to 70mg daily zinc. Either of those would be good to consider. I never had to use them tho, so I can't recommend which one might be more effective. It probably depends on why exactly he has sleep problems. Guest guest
Hi Dana, I don't know why he has sleep problems, but I sure wish I did. I thought that diet would help, it didn't- then I thought that supplements, GSE and OoO, food enzymes, pro-biotics, and Nystatin would help and none of them have. I would really prefer to find out the cause and fix it as opposed to putting a band-aid on it, like the 5-HTP or melatonin, but I don't know what to do from here. I'm broke and tired and more confused than ever. Every night I take him for at least a 1/2 hour long walk hoping the excercise and fresh air will help. I feed him protein in the morning and carbs for supper like the Dr. told us. I've tried everything that I've heard of and I don't know what to do now. Thanks. Amber. Have you ever consider bad bacteria or virus issues? When my son's other issues were gone, those issues did cause some amount of sleep disorder. You can try giving him OLE, which will address both. >>I would really prefer to find > out the cause and fix it as opposed to putting a band-aid on it, like the > 5-HTP or melatonin, but I don't know what to do from here. I can certainly understand why you want to find the cause. However, maybe a bandaid fix for now would be good for your own sleep deprivation! >>I feed him > protein in the morning and carbs for supper like the Dr. told us. Switch these. Give him the protein at night, see if that helps. Dana

Well, I use Natural Factors olive leaf extract, from my local health food store. >>I give the GSE and OoO in the morning, would that be when I would > give the OLE as well, I give almost everything at the same time, including OLE and GSE [when I needed GSE]. >> and how much would you say to start with- and do you > give it every day?? I started all four of my kids with 250mg, and worked up from there. #1 and #4 take it 1x per day. #3 takes it 2-3x per day. #2 takes it 3x per day at very high doses. On another message board, a parent once posted that giving her son B6 finally got him to sleep, but she had to be very careful of the timing, because if she gave it after about 4pm, he was wired much of the night. But have you tried B vitamins in the morning, to see if that helped? Dana
Guest guest
Yes, he gets 1 B-Complex from kirkman a day first thing in the morning. The one I was concerned about was the OoO. I talked to a girl from the health food store yesterday, and she said that OoO and OLE are the same thing, and she didn't know if you should give them at the same time. Right now I rotate the GSE and the OoO every 4 days- I was thinking of replacing the OoO with OLE, but then he would only be getting the OLE every 4 days, would that be enough, or does he need it every day? Thanks. Amber. My son did not tolerate OoO, but he does really well with GSE. and > she didn't know if you should give them at the same time. You probably can, altho that would be some serious yeast killing activity! >> Right now I rotate > the GSE and the OoO every 4 days- This is probably a good idea. To fight viruses, I have to give OLE 3x per day, or with certain of my kids 1-2x per day is sufficient. Skipping days does not work. Guest guest
Hope you don't mind me cutting in, my son justin also has sleep problems, since he was 21/2 years old. doctor said try benedryl. it cause drowsiness, that worked for awhile, then he would wake up in the middle of the night and won't go back to sleep. so I took him back for the sleep problem, he come to realize this is getting serious if we didn't take care of it, he would have suffer from sleep deprivation, and also me and my daughter. so he prescibed clonidine, 0.1 mg. he takes a whole one at night, mixed in his drink around 7:30 takes 40 to 50 minutes before it starts to work, and then he is ready to sleep. very few times he will wake up. but like he use to. I even tried to wean him off a year ago around christmas holidays since they had a long holiday from school, it was the worst, i couldn't get him to go to bed, took a long time for him to sleep.he is also taking aricept. so I went to talk to a pharmacist, since he knows what meds my son is on, I wanted to use over the counter sleep aid, but it has dipenhydramine, which he cannot take due to the aricept.but herbal supplement allura, we did try, it stunk, it suppose to calm and help you get to sleep it work alittle, but has a bad odor. so I put him back on clonidine, i was thinking of melatonin, but that is only a temporary fix, and not a long time fix,I am still doing research on supplements of what will help him sleep and thru the night and take him off clonidine but no such luck,I know you may not want to go that route. but if your child does not get enough sleep he or she will suffer from sleep deprivation. good luck, hope you will find something that will work without medication for it. when you do find it please let me know.good luck to you.annette Annette & gt; & gt; & gt; & gt; & gt;Would you recommend the 5-HTP, or slow & gt; & gt; release melatonin, which is another thing we've been considering. & gt; & gt; & gt; Either of those would be good to consider.
