Guest guest
Hi, We decided to try a dairy-free week or two before trying enzymes, to test our son's reaction to it when it is reintroduced (without enzymes). Then, we were planning to start the enzymes if they seemed necessary. For one week, my son has been completely dairy-free, and our results are mixed: (1.) For six of the seven days, he had one BM instead of his usual two. (He's very regular.) (Today, he hasn't even had one yet, and it's 3:45pm!) (2.) However, the quality of the BM's hasn't changed a bit. They are still VERY mushy, smelly, and of varying colors. (3.) He was excellent at OT on fine motor (something he usually fights), but his balance was off on the gross motor. (4.) He's more chatty than usual, but we'd been having progress in this area before the dairy-free week as well. Can't say dairy had a definite impact. My main question is this: since the quality of his BM's hasn't changed at all, does this indicate that dairy intolerance isn't our problem? Or do we need to give his body more time to adjust? What other physical signs should I be looking for? Is this going to be too hard to figure out without a doc? FYI -- he's been eating more of most non-dairy things in his diet this week, including eggs, meat, fruit, and juice. We've tried not to give too much juice, as we know that can cause soft BM's, and the fruits include bananas, which should be firming things up! Overall, I am very disappointed. I had high hopes for dairy being our culprit. in NJ (mom to , 3-1/2 years old, oral and verbal apraxia, mild hypotonia resulting in balance and coordination issues and fine motor difficulties)
