tilt of the head

I notice that when is in her high chair, she always tilts her head to her right. We always thought she was just cocking her head to get a better view. She is very observant and we thought this was all she was doing. The doctors have checked her to see that she turns her head both ways and they never said there was a problem. The left side of her head is where there is flatness. I'm not too familiar with tort and I wanted to know for those with tort, do you have more symptoms? Thanks.

Laurie - Yep, sounds like tort. Get on the torticolliskids site and check out reading info in links and check out pictures of our tort kids. Get a pt evaluation and request someone with experience in torticollis. The flat spot is even correct with a tort baby. Their heads are in the same position when laying. Try and rotate sleeping position and push tummy time.

Laurie,

Hannah did the same thing. I noticed it a month before I finally

asked someone because I thought the same thing you did (Hannah

doesn't miss much either). She has a mild case of torticollis. Here

is how we could tell it was tort:

Hannah is flat on her right side. She is tight on her left side.

She could only turn her head (where the chin is even with the

shoulder) on one side. The therapist gave us some neck stretches to

do at home 5x a day and it has made a world of difference. Hannah

now sleeps on the other side and her back some (instead of just the

right side). Try checking and see if she can turn her head

where her chin is even with her shoulders on both sides...if not, I

would bet she has a some degree of tort. The kiddo's compensate for

the tight side and only use the other (i.e. one reason they sleep on

the same side all the time). I would be more than happy to explain

the exercises we do for Hannah. Unless the tort is severe I really

think you could do the exercies at home and get the same

results....it has worked for us.

Feel free to email me directly if you want.

Laurie-

I have also noticed a slight tilt to my daughter's head since she

started wearing her band. The dr's told me she did not have tort, I

sort of differ in my opinion. Abigail seems to lean her head on

things like the band is too heavy. It does seem to be getting a

little better over time. maybe your daughter is just tired at the

time and holding her head up with the band on also is just tiring.

Just a thought!
