Hi Debby,

has only been in the star band for about 6 weeks and she is almost 8 months old. Maybe some of the other moms with older babies would be better at answering your questions, but don't get discouraged. From what I understand the best time (not the only time, though) to use the helmet is up to 12 months. You are still there! Our doctor also said that may be in the helmet for 6 months. Give it the time. I know it is hard if you don't see any kind of result, but every little bit helps. My only advice is to keep your daughter in the helmet as much as possible and know that you have done the right thing so far. When we first started cried so much I didn't think it was going to work. We hung in there and now she is totally used to it! Your daughter is still 1 1/2 months away from being a year old and I know there are lots of parents on this board whose children wear the band after 1 year have seen improvement! Of course you are doing the best and whatever you decide is what works for you and is therefore the right decision. Keep us posted.

Debby,

Did Abby have her head measured when you visited the Ped? If she has gained

weight, and is measuring taller, then she has been growing. From what I

understand a baby continually grows in the first year, as for the second year

you only get sporadic growth spurts. I think Sierra has had two, and we have

seen improvement from that. If I were you I would call Dulcey Lima, and find

out what's going on.

Don't be too discouraged. You should check with your parents or others who don't see your son as much as you do. It is hard for me to notice changes with 's head, but when we were at my in-laws, they really thought she was getting better. They hadn't seen her in about a month. Just make sure your perspective isn't slanted because you see your son every day. Also, check to make sure the Star band is fitted correctly. Keep us posted.

Hi Debbie -

I also am discouraged by our STARband. My doctors keep saying - well, I

don't see it getting any worse! While that is great - I really thought we

should be seeing it get better at this point. will be 10 months next

week. I see getting longer and definately feel him getting heavier -

while no change in the head. It really makes you wonder why you are doing

it. But I told myself that I would try this for his sake - it has to work

eventually. There are days when I think it is finally starting to work, but

when I put him in the tub to wash his hair, I see that it has not changed -

his hair is just fluffier! But I will keep praying - God doesn't do things

1/2 way!

Subject: SO Discouraged after 2 1/2 mos! HELP

Hello everyone:

I've posted about this a while ago, but am again so discouraged. Our

daughter, Abby rec'd her STAR band 11/4/00 - at age 8 mos.. She has

moderate plagio on her right side. We took her to her ped. yesterday

for a double ear infection, she had her band off due to a high fever,

I asked her ped. if he's seen ANY improvement, and he has not. Nor

have I. I am so discouraged. I didn't expect to see a perfectly

round head after only 2 mos., but some improvement, even the

slightest would be great! Our orthotist keeps saying she needs to

hit a growth spurt, well she's already put on nearly 3 lbs and gotten

longer since she was banded! How much more growing can a 26 lb- 10

1/2 mo old do? What is the problem???? I guess I'm wondering if

anyone else had a similar situation? Right now I have a very bad

attitude about it and haven't had her in the band for over 1 day, as

I say to myself " What's the point, she's been in it over 2 mos with

NO improvement " . I know, I know, I need to stay upbeat, but it's so

frustrating. I do NOT regret getting the band for one second though,

even if it does not work, at least I did my best as a parent. Sorry

to ramble on with my bad attitude, but you can all relate to my

frustrations, thank you for " listening " !

Debbie & Abby, 3/1/00 - band 11/4/00

Also, make sure you find someone who will give you an HONEST opinion.

My inlaws always told me how great Hanna's head looked, but they would

have done anything to get her band off of her head. They hated it!
