Guest guest
Hi Everyone, When I take Drew's band off to clean his head, it looks pretty good, sweaty but no real red spots. The problem is, soon thereafter, he starts scratching, especially around and behind his left ear. Pretty soon his entire ear and surrounding area are pretty red. I can only imagine how itchy he must get in the band, but I'm worried that all the scratching might break his skin. Anyone else have this problem? Any recommendations? I usually feed him right after the band comes off, then bathe him, band goes back on then it's naptime. I thought about bathing him first, but he's really used to this routine, and the bath helps to clean up after the feeding and get him ready for his nap. I would rather not change the order of things if I can help it. Thanks for any thoughts. Lily
Guest guest
Lily, My daughter does the same thing. i tends to scratch behind her left ear while I am feeding her when the Band is off. I have found by keeping her nails as short as possible she cannot break the skin. And I have also found that if I hold her hand while she feeds she won't scratch. If she won't hold my hand then I give her a toy to hold instead. The area that i is scratching is a very dry patch that probably itches like crazy. So to help aleveate the itch I appy a little dab of cortisone cream 0.05% and that also seems to help. I hope this helps! Guest guest
Thanks Jaya Can I buy the cortisone cream at the pharmacy? I don't think we need it yet, but it might be something good to have on hand. Guest guest
Thanks Kendra, I used a wet cloth first and wiped down around his ear then towel dried his whole head. It seems to have helped, he scratched less tonight. Thanks for the suggestion. Guest guest
Thanks Belinda, I'm going to try to keep him from scratching as much as possible. I know sometimes when I get an itch (like a mosquito bite) and start scratching, it gets worse and just snowballs and pretty soon I'm crazy from the itching. Hopefully, I'll be able to contain it. I'll talk to CT about it this week as well. I hope you can resolve Vince's itchiness too. It sounds like you've tried just about everything. Our poor itchy boys! Guest guest
Lily, Yes, the Cortisone can be bought in the pharmacy...I buy the least amount of Cortisone that you can 0.5% (I was incorrect in my last post, it is not 0.05%..sorry) and I just use a little dab on the area that is dry and itchy. It does seem to take the edge off so that she doesn't fuss with the area so much.
