Guest guest
I've read that megadoses of GABA are helpful. Has anyone done this?

Has anyone done this? well......my adorable tough nut. i have tried sooo many things with him. he is still as hyper and stimmy as ever. just turned 9 yrs old yesterday. was told to give GABA in high doses. made problem worse (for us at least). recently recd results back from neurotransmitter test (from neuroscience). no surprises here: my son is high in the excitotoxins. GABA was high. however, there appears to be pathway blockages cause some of the neurotransmitters (chemicals) are not converting like they are supposed to. GABA is supposed to be a calming neurotransmitter (yea, right!). according to my son's test results, he is not converting enough glutamate to GABA. most is staying as glutamate causeing excitotoxicity in the brain. my son is not able to get rid of GABA quick enough. getting stuck somewhere. (note: glutamine in the body is converted to glutamate. glutamate is an excitatory brain chemical and can cause pre mature cellular inflammation. when glutamate goes too high, it should be converted into GABA). im learning this as i go along! anyway, mercury (where have i heard that word before?) toxicity blocks the body's ability to get rid of glutamate. talk about a viscious cycle! and yes, we have been chelating since 10-05 (td dmps and ndf plus) i dont think i actually answered your question, but, hope you got something out if this anyway (smile). vicki
Guest guest
Vicki, I am glad you brought this up. My son is hyper too and his ION test showed really high Glutamic Acid. I have been reading and learning about Yasko's protocol and I am getting such great feed back from those who are doing her protocol. Regulating glutamic acids and glutamate/glutamin has to do I think with issues regarding protein digestions and she advices low protein diet and she talks about this being one of the biomarkers of CBS up regulation genetic mutation coupled with high ammonia issues which shows up in urine or BM sometimes (the odor) which she believes is essential to treat first and foremost before the child is capable of fully benefiting from Methyl Donors or completing methylation cycle. Even though my son is currently doing great and new words are arriving everyday, I want to do Yasko's testing and consultation. Many of the kids that are improving on her treatment model are the tough and low/non responders. There has been really great back and forth on the Yasko's stuff and if you want me to, I can forward them to you off lease. As you know I do think about your child. Needless to say that your boy maybe Yasko's type of kid and what she refers to as the children with raw nerves because of excitotoxins. I really recommend that you start researching her material or at least order " The Puzzle of Autism " book with the two DVD. It is eye opening and I am determined to incorporate her treatment even if I end up selling everything we own and go in debt or sleep on the street(lol). This is how strongly I feel that there is something there that is a part of the puzzle and of paramount importance. Please let me know where your thoughts are.
