Well.

One reason I can think of is that so many of these kids have heavy metal

toxicity and there is a synergy between the metals and the yeast and/or

bacteria; and also if the gut us leaky then its not as able to

colonize/maintain the good stuff (whether we are talking about good bacteria

or enzymes).

Just out of curiosity I was wondering how you know your son has never had

yeast? I know most of us aren't out there doing comprehensive digestive

stool analysis (at almost $400 a pop - ouch!) or urine test (not all that

reliable anyway) all that often. I know some people do the saliva test; but

here I feel like more of an empiricist out of necessity. If it looks like

yeast and responds to a yeast treatment.etc etc.

Have you ever read DeFelice's book on Enzymes. She has over a

chaper in there about yeast, plus she talks about it all over the

book. Very informative!!!

We've done the comprehensive stool test 2 times! YES,

OUCH! Could never do the urine test since he isnt PT

and those darn bags wouldn't stay on.

We tried Candex for a while when things were REALLY

bad! And, no change.

Our DAN Dr just kept telling us, it wasn't yeast...

Because yeast and/or die off [usually yeast, sometimes die off] is a

common cause of a LOT of symptoms.

My son can get yeast in his head, which I don't believe would show up

on tests, but it is still yeast and goes away when I increase the

yeast protocol.

Phenol intolerance can mimic yeast overgrowth symptoms.

What are the behaviors he does that seem to mimic yeast?

Thanks...what you said about Phenol is INTERESTING

since we have yet to try it and I have been

considering it. We are meeting with a new DAN Dr in

Jan, so I have been waiting for his recommendation.

Chase LOVES potato chips - a special kind that you can

ONLY find during Halloween called BOO CHIPS! We have

8 bags left and when those are gone all hell will

break loose! He has been eating 1/2 bag of those

things/day since early Oct! They have sugar in them

too. YIKES!

My son doesn't have sleep issues, doesn't laugh

uncontrolably and doesn't spin around or do other

stims for long periods of time. But, his little bum

hole often gets red and sometimes itchy, he can get

spaced out, aggressive and angry at the smallest of

things (he is EASILY frustrated and annoyed). We went

through several periods of BAD, HORRIBLE runny diapers

(like 6-7 per day) from last March to August but got

is " cleared " up by changing our probiotic (and,

increasing it), moving from Kirkman to Houston

Enzymes, and starting some homeopathic remedies. But,

that could have been caused from bacteria, although,

severe bacteria did show up as being a problem on the

comprehensive stool samples either? He as slightly

" out of balance " which is why we changed and and

increased his probiotics.

How do you know your son has yeast in his head if you

can't test for it???

This is confusing. For kids with phenol intolerance, most people work

to reduce the amount of phenol in the diet. Not sure why you would be

considering ADDING it. More info here

I would suspect something about the chips he does not tolerate.

By behaviors. Usually, he will lose some language and stop being

interested in interacting with his siblings. There are other

behaviors also, like spinning, giggling, hyper, lining up objects,

etc, but he will almost always lose language and social interest.

In our experience.. my son gets " yeasty " every time he eats potato

chips. This is how we knew. He didn't giggle or anything like

that. His bum hole does get itchy and he gets ornery (we call

it " off " ). He will tease his sister more, be more intolerant of

things, more defiant. So, we tried giving him GSE (this was over a

year ago - he doesn't get chips anymore - poor guy since he loves

them). And after GSE for a day, we had yeasty poops. This happened

a few times for us to see the cycle. I know potatos are HUGE yeast

growers. Not sure what the difference was in the chips vs. an actual

potato, but for our son there was.

I never thought my son had yeast. He didn't have skin rashes, oral

thrush, no outward sign of yeast. However, his behavior was clearly

unfocused, easily agitated, and " moody " . He also had mushy poops

and had always had them. I just figured it was his " personality "

and pattern. My doctor did a stool test which, of course, showed no

yeast. However, he said that it often doesn't show up anyway, and

that many autoimmune disorders have trouble with yeast, so why

shouldn't autism. He suggested a trial course of Diflucan to see if

anything would signal yeast. WOW did it ever!!! My son was like a

new person on the Diflucan. He was happy all the time, having

normal poops, initiating to go " poop on the potty " , and much less

agitated or stimmy. Even though you don't see physical signs of

yeast, the gut-brain connection shows it through behavioral ways.

I'm a firm believer it the yeast overgrowth factor in autism. We're

now on a 3 month course of Nystatin. There's certainly no harm in

trying some anti-yeast treatments to see if they work for your

child. Unfortunately, no test is very accurate on intestinal yeast

(according to my doctor). Good luck!
