Guest guest
I haven't heard about any changes coming from the Pope (wasn't looking for this information, though). However, our Catholic school requires immunization for everyone. No exemptions for anyone. Perhaps if you had an allergic reaction or something they might exempt you, but not for religious or philosophical reasons. One family pulled six kids out of the school because they didn't want the chicken pox vaccine given to their children. (The mom said it was cultured in aborted fetal tissue, but I have no information on the veracity of this. Like I said, not my issue these days...) As you know, the Church isn't into flexibility. It probably would have to come down from the Pope. in NJ > > Does anyone know of the source or actually has it? From what I was told today, the Pope ( I am sorry, we are catholic) has now ok'd ,so to speak.., the right of not immunizing, hence it being contained in the religious belief category. I do not want my 5 yr old getting the last round of shots the school wants and for once I was told the Pope may be on the bandwagon because it limits fertility. Anybody hear of such ???? I just want some back up ammo:) > > TIA > >
Guest guest
Good Morning and Thank You , Just about 2 mins ago I found a scripture in the bible that states something along the line of give nothing to my child that may cause them harm. Good enough for me. Of course, I am Irish catholic and from NJ actually but just moved to DE this past year. My 4 yr old just had a very intense panel done and it was confirmed that she has off the charts mercury poisoning. My 5 yr old who has no symptoms as her sister, is also due soon on a few other boosters and after yesterday...I am flat out ready for fight not letting her receive said shots. Since I am new to this loop, I was kind of like a " deer-in-the-headlights " but I read try to follow everyone's replies. Thank You so much Re: OT: Catholic church and immunizations wavier? Guest guest
.. (The mom said it was cultured in aborted fetal tissue, but I have no information on the veracity of this. I don't know about any policy changes in church but I do know many feel there is a hypocricy in their vaccine stance given how strongly they feel about abortion issues. Guest guest
, I found this recently while doing research for myself. Go to this website and click on the link at the left which says " Filing a Catholic Religious Exemption. " That page is chock full of references to Catholic documents as to why you can abstain from vaccines, discussion of the sanctity of life, abortion etc - issues that surround your decision to not vaccinate. http://www.cogforlife.org/ A sample exemption letter can be found here: http://www.cogforlife.org/sampleletter.htm I hope this helps you. Guest guest
Good question...but if you're Catholic, you'd have Catholic law to back you up. If you're of another faith, you can still write a religious exemption. This link has an excerpt from a vaccine exemption letter with Bible references. http://www.geocities.com/titus2birthing/VacExempt.html You do not have to be of a particular faith in order to submit a religious exemption. The above link also states the following with regard to court cases: " Our legal rights are guaranteed by the free exercise clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. States can only go against this if they can prove a compelling state interest is at stake. But recent court decisions have upheld the rights of individuals seeking exemptions from immunizations based upon " personal " religious beliefs. [sherr and Levy vs. Northport East-Northport Union Free School District, 672 F. Supp. 81, (E.D.N.Y., 1987); Allanson vs. Clinton Central School District, U.S.. District Court, Northern District Court, Northern District of New York (84 CV 174), 1984; Campain vs. Marlboro Central School District, Supreme Court Ulster County Special Term, November 15, 1985; Brown vs. City School District, 429 NYS2d 355; Maier vs. Besser, 73 Misc.2d 241]. On the U.S. Supreme Court level in Frazee v. Illinois Dept. of Security, 489 U.S. 829, 1989, it was found that a state may not deny an exemption simply because a person is not a member of a formal religious organization. In addition, the Supreme Court has noted that nontraditional beliefs, including secular humanism, atheism, and nontheistic faiths, are all " religion " for the purpose of free exercise analysis. The Supreme Court in Fowler v. Rhode Island, 345 U.S. 67 (1953) held that it was " no business of the courts to say what is a religious practice or activity for one group is not religion under the protection of the First Amendment. " I have other information about particular court cases but I have too many links bookmarked can can't find them right now. I hope this helps someone. ******************************************* Posted by: " Randle " annjeelynn@... annjeelynn Fri Jul 14, 2006 11:10 am (PST) I am assuming you would have to be catholic??? I am a Christian and plan to not immunize any further (my 4 year old AS son as well as his 12 mo. old sister) I live in CA which allows the philosophical waiver, but if I had to use a religious waiver, I would probably cite this scripture, to not inject toxins into my child's body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (New King Version) 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body[a] and in your spirit, which are God's. > Also, can you tell me how you were able to test your son's mercury level?
