Can you explain the above? I ask because we have been gFCF for 18mo as well- just started enzymes...(also been swimming in cholrine all week) and there have been some cool things happening. (will chronicle them after a week or so for ya'll.) He is better on > enzymes and off sugar/simple starches/yeast. We use specific yeast > and bacteria treatments as well. can you elaborate- which ones? we have done the Kirmman probiogold but I didn't do an anti-fungal at the same time and we never got things figured out. i was going to try that again and add gse or perhpas the primal defense in place of the probiogold...and talk to dr about nystatin. > Amy in mich
Guest guest
My son made intitial progress off gluten/dairy; however eating rice, potatoes and the other substitutes for gluten caused massive yeast overgrowth. He has very severe yeast problems though. Not everyone does. Also, the gfcf foods he ate tended to be starchy, or contain sugar. He is now intolerant of rice and potatoes, and he couldn't tolerate many of the alternative grains/flours at all. For yeast he took GSE, which seemed to help in some ways but since he has a hard time tolerating both phenols and anything citrus, it caused problems with hyperactivity, sleeplessness and a rash. He now takes Nystatin and Houston chewable probiotics with no bad effects. I am thinking of starting Three Lac, which I have very mixed feelings about. After my son was GFCF for about a year he started enzymes, and I couldn't believe the difference in him. After about 6 mos. I took him off the GFCF diet and stayed with enzymes and he has gone from low to high functioning in that time (he has now been on enzymes for almost 4 years)- eg he began speaking, taught himself to read, write and type, and is in a much higher functioning classroom now. Although he still has to avoid casein, yeast, fruit, sugar and chemicals, the combination of gluten + enzymes seems actually better for him than GFCF. Everyone is different though, this is just his own personal physiology. Guest guest
Thanks Amy I have felt like we may have introduced the same problem w/ since potatoes and rice are his primary grains and it is funny when he has had planned and unplanned infractions he has gotten better language wise....so I am trying the enzymes right now and going to try a gluten infraction before too long. I do think has casein issues (and other milk products) that are more broad reaching. Then going to have another go at the yeast via probiotics and antifungals before we try the nystatin...trying to get this all done before we go back to dr in a few months. amy > > > My experience with my son, who was full of candida and some > > > bacteria, was that GFCFSF, which we did for 18 mos., made his > > yeast > > > problems exponential, and didn't address bacteria. > > > > Can you explain the above? Guest guest
> Well, I have bad news. My Dan doctor has just recommended GFCF or SCD diet for my son. Most DANs will recommend those diets, even if the child can do enzymes without diet. So if your child is doing just fine with enzymes, you can consider NOT doing those diets. However, some kids do best with enzymes PLUS a diet. The diet my son needed was not gfcf or scd, but your child might do well with one of those diets plus enzymes. > The little I could understand looking at the CDSA analysis (the meeting with my doctor to disccuss it will be in two weeks) is that my son has the following bacteria: bifidobacterian, proteus mirabilis, all kind of candida and little yeast. > The diet will eliminate the bacteria and restore the good health of my boy. Depends on which diet you use, and the reason why your child has those issues. >>I'm seriously thinking to give it a shot, so here is my question: how long would be considered reasonable on just the diet, before reinserting the enzimes with planned infractions? I would keep the enzymes, then implement whichever diet you choose. > If I start him on the diet, how long I need to wait to see some changes? If he needs the specific diet you choose, you *should* see results within about 3 weeks. Dana
