Guest guest
My sister's adopted 2 year old has some blood work done. One test shows high cholesterol (I think somewhere near 170). He eats a well- rounded diet, is NT, very active, on-task, making milestones. Is there something that she can do to lower the levels? They do eat out occassionally and like a Mc's treat every now and then.... My 3.5 year old regressive autistic son also has high cholesterol (in the 200s). We were told it was from his diet (GFCF, high protein with lots of chicken, beef, eggs; veggies and pears). Any ideas? Thanks,
Guest guest
My daughter who is ASD and 3 1/2 had high cholesterol and at the time she was not GF/CF. She ate chicken nuggets, pizza, meat, some veggies, fruit, tons of dried fruit - typical toddler diet. My impression was that she had a poor metabolism and wasn't processing her fats well (fatty acid deficiency). NOt sure if my impression is accurate. But, not sure if it just diet related - I think it could be a metabolic problem. > > My sister's adopted 2 year old has some blood work done. Guest guest
, NKO (Neptune Krill Oil) will help in reducing bad cholesterol and raising good cholesterol. My ND shared with me (on paper) and double blind placebo study with NKO and cholesterol and the results were that it reduced LDL levels by 34% and increased HDL 43.5% in 90 days. He also told me that NKO is the best source of delivering the EPA/DHA to the body. They are small gel capsules (the size of vitamin A-- pea size) but are not easily masked. I would give this a shot. My dad also uses Red Yeast Rice (must be taken with CoQ10) and this has reduced his cholesterol levels extremely well! His doctor was shocked and asked him what he was doing because his results are amazing! I don't know about giving this to a child though. Sorry..... thought I'd share this too for any adults on the list concerned about cholesterol. Here is the NKO we use: http://www.nutritiongeeks.com/details.asp?ProductID=10095 & ProdgroupID=10095 Also, Mercola had a newsletter last month excited about the results of NKO and the health benefits. I will post the newsletter. He is selling a product, but as long as it has the NKO seal on the bottle.... you are fine. I personally don't believe in one single source of a product to be the elite. Guest guest
Jackie, do you give this alone of with CLO? Ours will swallow it, if it is small, also how much do you give? Guest guest
, high cholesterol can be a marker for hypothyroidism, which is pretty common amongst kids on the spectrum. Have you had any labwork for thyroid function done? (Free T3, Free T4, etc?) this is a great site for thyroid information: www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Low T3 can affect brain function and development, so it's good to rule it out as a possible cause of high cholesterol (and cofactor for asd). take care René > > My sister's adopted 2 year old has some blood work done. Guest guest
We've had Ronan's tested 2 times in the last year. I will have to go back and look at the results. As for my nephew, this was the first big panel of bloodwork they had done in a long time. I'm not sure what the doctor said she'd do for him. I'll keep passing on the info to my sister. Thank you, > > > > My sister's adopted 2 year old has some blood work done. One test > > shows high cholesterol (I think somewhere near 170).
