Guest guest
I'd recommend Enzymes for Autism by DeFelice, The Natural Medicine Guide to Autism by Marohn, Children with Starving Brains by Jaquelyn McCandless, Candida Albicans by Ray Wunderlich, Leaky Gut Syndrome by Lipski and Natural Remedies by Conrad LeBeau. We can throw out all the advice, but until you understand where your child sits biomedically, you won't have a very good filter or grasp. May cause you to start, stop or not follow through on various treatments without success. McCandless and DeFelice do an outstanding job of offering background information that hopefully will give you a few lightbulb moments where you'll say " oh, that's my child " or " nope that doesn't pertain to us " . Which is to say you will have a much better idea of which of our suggestions to take and which to discard. Good luck to you. DANA Re: Intro & concerned about son's constant eye shutting Hi Everyone, This is my first actual post, but I've been reading and absorbing everything for about a month now. I've been trying to decide whether to start enzymes for my 4 year old daughter. She's never been diagnosed with ASD, but I am almost convinced she falls somewhere in the spectrum... She began with this eye rolling, snorting, and head twitching almost overnight right after Thanksgiving AND began having OCD-like symptoms and extreme irritability (OCD and irritability never really subsided since). Actually, the Sunday after Thanksgiving this all began with very noticeable intensity (I had never observed anything like it with her before that day). I took her to her ped. who was trying to tell me it was Tourette's. I wasn't convinced so I did my own research and read of PANDAS. The ped. did a throat swab which came back pos. for strep, however, her strep titers never rose. She started having fever about 2 days after the tics began. She NEVER complained of sore throat and her bloodwork indicated a virus of some kind (neutrophils were low and mono and lymphocytes were high). So we really don't know what she really had...they're now saying perhaps the strep test was a false positive and it was viral...She was vaccinated for school on 9/15/06 and honestly, was doing extremely well prior to vaccines, and has been going downhill since vaccines (DTP, MMR, and Polio)...long story, sorry. Anyway, about 2 weeks later the tics started to subside to almost none (other than something new - plucking fingers) and have recently returned. She had what appeared to be a stomach virus last week (vomiting, diarrhea, fever). I had started giving her FloraBear Probiotics by Renew Life just before she started having tics and the virus again - so I don't know if it was a form of yeast die-off or not. She has been on and off antibiotics since birth; repeated ear infections until tubes at 1 yr. old; recurrent resp. infections; asthma; skin problems/thrush as a baby (skin issues not nearly as bad now, other than a recurrent irritation in genital area (I suspect yeast - she has the classic red ring around her anus -sorry so graphic) Has anyone ever heard of these probiotics for kids? Any comments on them or what I should do for my daughter (is this viral or yeast or both??), please, please let me know. Thanks to everyone here. All of your experiences and comments have been very insightful. > > > > > > Dana,(this is someone different than the one that posted this first > > topic) this is what we have been seeing our Nat. doctor for.
