Guest guest
Welcome - what a great way to start the year, getting healthy and hubby working out with you too. Guest guest
Hey Kate, go out and walk with the cows, they are good conversationalists, I am sure... OK, not making light of your lack of options.... have you tried the WATP videos or others that you can do at home? I'd opt for the outdoors, when the weather is permitting. Two weeks ago, I fell on the ice walking and had to take almost 2 weeks off of my workouts :'( Decided to go for a small walk today and it was the same: black ice on the sidewalks.... definately thinking some more videos for indoors..... yikes! It's very similar to the one she put my hubby on last year, and he went from 304 to 227lbs! I only wish I would have started my diet when he started his! I know we both have a ways to go, but I didn't gain it overnight, and I don't expect to lose it overnight, either!

Guest guest
Yep I'm diabetic also but my count is doing really good right now probably cuz I finally started my diet like I should have from the beginning. I'm slapping my self down for that one should have got off my back side and got doing something a long time ago but better now then never... How long did it take your husband to get down that far? And what guide lines did she give you? Guest guest
well, I'm not sure what the rules are regarding mentioning prescriptions on here, but the dietician put hubby on Metformin HCL in January, and a 15 carb unit a day diet. (carb unit is 15 grams). She also advised lots of veggies, less grains and starchs. By Febuary of the following year he had dropped 70 some-odd pounds. We caught his diabetes early, his folks are diabetic, and when he started showing symptoms, I took him in to get checked. He never exercised that whole year, the only reason he wants to now is to " tone up " . I envy him his metabolism. I recently found out I have polycystic ovarian syndrome when I went in to find out why we haven't had kids, and apparently the best " cure " for it is to, surprise!, lose weight. I'd like to lose 10lbs. by St. Patty's day, I have this green dress....
Guest guest
I know a lot about PCOS. My sister has had it for 16 years and I am a type II diabetic. There is very little known about it and just recently lots of MD's have gained education about it. They are treating PCOS with Metformin, the meds your hubby is on. You may want to talk to your doctor about that. It's very hard to lose weight with PCOS... I think the metformin will help... you are also at high risk for developing diabeties with PCOS, but if you are under control, you will probably get pregnant on the metformin... you will need to be monitored with insulin throughout your pregnancy. I had both of my children this way and now have a 2 year old and 6 month old. Good luck.missirose18 <missirose18@...> wrote: well, I'm not sure what the rules are regarding mentioning prescriptions on here, but the dietician put hubby on Metformin HCL in January, and a 15 carb unit a day diet. Guest guest
Missi Rose welcome. A number of gals in this group have PCOS or have signs of it. Which is my case. I show some signs of it. BUT it has never been a problem in getting preggers. I have to also heard Metoformin is great with diebetes and PCOS. Unfortunately PCOS is a zebra disease. No sure test to say you have it ONLY signs and syptoms. No cure just things that help. For me being on the pill works for me. I am at least regular. BUT I am also done with having children. Not my choice but that is the path I am on. Educate yourself. Seek help with it threw your insurance and we will send positive vibes your way that you will concieve. NH... Guest guest
oh ok... I'm on the same meds for diabetes Just got them not long ago , the diabetes was on of the big reasons to lose the weight also. It runs in my family but heard that if you lose weight it might reverse , so need to anyway I thought so here I am. Well tomorrow is my one week weigh in as I spaced it off today... will let you know how I'm doing Kate Re: New Beginnings well, I'm not sure what the rules are regarding mentioning prescriptions on here, but the dietician put hubby on Metformin HCL in January, and a 15 carb unit a day diet. Guest guest
How do you all do it? I plan on starting a new phase of eating healthy, controlling portions and exercise and when the time comes to start I just can't bring myself to do it... I make so many excuses like the fact I have a 3 month old son.. I wish I could motivate myself to do it.

Guest guest
One of the things that I did when I first started this journey -- and in fact have started doing it again -- is that I work on adding things to my life. I focus on adding one new good habit -- working on it until it has become a habit and then adding something else. I do not focus stopping the bad habits. My hope/goal is that the good habits that I develop will soon take over the bad ones. Also, I do not put myself on a deadline of any kind. This is a way of life. There is not going to be an end. I will have to always work at developing/maintaining those good healthy habits. I also realize that some of those habits are going to change depending upon where I am in my life at the moment. What good habit would be easy for you to add to your life right now? Could you focus on drinking more water on a daily basis? (That will also help your exercise, because you'll be running to the bathroom a lot.) Can you add 15 minutes of exercise to your life right now? Take a look at the Walk Away the Pounds videos. There is one that is 18 minutes long. When I started out, I told myself that I could find 18 minutes in the day for me to exercise. What one good eating habit do you think you could add to your life? More veggies? Can you add one more serving of veggies to your food on a daily basis? Start small. Take baby steps. I am working on starting over again. I am starting small. I am working on building the foundations of the routines that I want to establish. This week I am focusing on starting my exercise routine again. I have committed to doing 30 minutes of any kind of exercise on a daily basis. I am also working on recording my food intake. I am keeping track of the calorie intake -- but I am not trying to lower it at all. I want to focus on keeping the record -- not on the calories. When keeping the record is a habit, I will start working on looking for places I can shave off a few calories here & there and work at slowly lowering my calorie intake. Anyway, just keep trying. Don't give up. The only way you can fail at this is if you stop trying. Dacia <>< The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. Guest guest
look in the mirror - why do you want to get healthy? Your son is going to grow and if your back is already hurting from the weight you're carrying now - imangine how it will feel carrying that little bundle of joy around when he weighs 20 pounds or so. Same thing if you get winded now. If you get winded now - how about when you're chasing him around? Don't try everything at once - focus on 1 thing at a time - maybe smaller portions or getting your water in - or taking your son for a walk. baby steps are fine. Focus on losing 10 pounds instead of thinking about the overall picture. Have a great day! BTW - my daughter's name is Katrina too --- Katrina <bailey.katrina@...> wrote: > How do you all do it? Guest guest
I have PCOS, and had a really hard time getting pregnant with my daughter Maggie. I ended up using clomid, and got pregnant in two months. Just thought I'd mention. -mamabear

Guest guest
Yes, I have heard of this and I think their products are definitely to be recommended. I bought quite a few of them recently. I'm having some problems with Kirkman's right now and I'm waiting to hear back from one of their administrators about a labeling issue. New Beginnings was founded and is run by a mom of a child on the spectrum who is recovering. Peace, Kathy E.
