He has a bad headache or someother sort of pain which stops him sleeping

and ibuprofen stops it? Also Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory (I think)

and he may have painful inflammation in his guts which it is working on?

I don't know, I'm suggesting

Sounds to me like the ibuprofen is taking away a pain of some sort that is

keeping him from sleeping; I would try to discover what hurts. Ibuprofen is

not all that safe, long term use tears up the digestive system (especially

the stomach) and it is hard on the liver. Try something natural for sleep

aid, maybe someone here can give you pointers on a more natural remedy.

Hello Donna! I really feel for you having sleep issues with your child. I am

fortunate that my daughter has not really had sleep issues, with the exception

of waking up every once in a while. But it is nothing compared to what other

people go through with their children. I am going to suggest some things you

might have already thought of but here it goes: does your child have any yeast

issues that you know of? Yeast could be a possibility, or have you ever tried

giving magnesium supplement before going to bed or maybe an epsom salt

bath?(and adding a few drops of lavender oil) Also, efa deficiency's can cause

you to

have sleep issues, do you give any good quality EFA's such as fish oil and

evening primrose oil?If so, you might need to adjust the dosage for them. Does

your child get enough fat during the day? Does he get adequate cholesterol from

foods?Or does he just eat a lot of carbs? Do you use enzymes?Maybe your child

is having problems with digesting a certain food? Do you keep a food diary,

maybe there is something that your child eats in the evening that affects

wanting to sleep? (like food that can cause hyperactivity such as red dye, corn,

or

phenols) I hope I am not repeating something someone else has suggested, I am

just trying to help. I hope that you can find out what is going on and help

your child to sleep. Blessings!

We have a ongoing issue with my son not sleeping thru the night. He

goes to bed fine and then wakes any where from 3 to 5am. We've seen a

sleep specialist and initially he told us to give our son Tylenol at

bedtime b/c everyone's body temperture dips later in the night and he

theorized that this lowering of our son's temperature was causing him

to arouse/wake around 3 - 4 am. The tylenol was suppose to push the

temp dip back to closer to a normal waking time. I believe it may

have worked for a short while (as have everything else we tried!).

Maybe the Ibuprofen works the same way?

Just be cautious on the pain relievers. Im sorry to say but they can have

affects on the liver/kidneys etc. Also affects the flora in the intestinal

tract!! Sometimes I know we dont have a choice, but use with caution!!! My son

always required little sleep(I have permanent bags under my eyes:)!! I often

thought it was due also to he is very inactive and also gi discomfort flares up

at night. Around 5yrs he slowly started to sleep better at night then vac

reaction and then it was a nightmare when it came to sleep(horrible gi pain)!!!

Now at 7yrs and much recovery he is sleeping better through the night, but is up

sooo early, between 4 and 5am typically. Once in a while he well still wake up

during night, but can usually get him back to sleep within a few min's, on

occasion well stay awake. But I can say it has gotten better with age. Hope your

little one sleeps better!! Jennie<><

Our son became iron deficient anemic due to ibuprofin (dye free motrin). We

also gave it regularly and it irrated his stomach to the point of bleeding (no

blood in stools - we had no idea). Now we are on iron supps etc... Could he be

refluxing at night (our son also had silet reflux that went undiagnosed until 2y

10 mo) and the motrin takes that pain from that away? you may want to ask your

doc about a trial course of Prevacid and see if that helps. You could also try

magnesium and zinc before bed. We went thru hell w/ sleep issues. Feel free to

email me off list if you'd like. Just put my name in the subject line. Good

luck,

yThat is interesting about the temperature theory. My dd (PDD-NOS

now 6 years old) has always had trouble sleeping since she was 8

months old. We have tried just about everything except melatonin.

What has helped is maturity - she knows to stay in bed and go back

to sleep if she can, but sometimes she still come in our room - and

magnesium sulfate cream at night, right before bed. Getting yeast

under control I think has helped as well. Are you giving no-fenol

with phenolic foods during the day? Have you addressed possible

yeast? Good luck with this - there are many, many days when I wonder

how I have made it this far with no sleep for so many years.

What is he like when he wakes up? My son used to wake up with fishy

breath and screaming and upset when he was not properly digesting

fats. If he's yeasty hell wake up crazy and run around screaming

happily. Inositol and enzymes have helped. Take a look at your night

time supps and see if removing or changing them helps.

Also, Belladonna the homeopathic remedy helps with inflammation.

Melatonin will help your son get to sleep but he may not sleep through

the night all the way.

Some further observations will help getting to the root of the problem.

Hi,

My son used to wake up every single night screaming and hitting the

walls, sometimes 3-4x's p/night. I thought I was going to go insane at

times! Anyway, Belladonna has worked get for us. Every few months I

have to give it to him, but he can only tolerate 1/2 the dose. If you

are not familiar w/ homeopathy, too much of something can cause the

problem to get worse.(wish I had time to explain, but have to go get

son). Anyway, it is great here. Start with half a dose and see what

happens. If nothing, then give full dose.

Donna,

I think after I sent my original e-mail, I realized that it should be

addressed to someone else. So I sent another one saying that it should be

addressed

to the parents who have sleep issues with their children . I hope all is well

with your child. This is my first week of trying enzymes and probiotics. So

far, so good. :o)

Ginger

P.s. I know how it is to loose sleep, so if I had a child who had consistent

sleep issues, I believe that I would pretty much try it all. Of course, for

us, drugs would be a last resort. :o)

Yes, Ibuprofen is anti-inflammatory and that was my thought on this-

that there is some kind of gut inflammation that the ibuprofen is

calming for him? I wasn't here on the group when you posted some

months back, so I don't know what all you've tried, but looks like

you've got some good suggestions here in other posts today. I was also

wondering if you've had food sensitivity testing done, or tried going

GFCF?

Aloe vera or Slippery elm are anti inflammatories that may help with

pain.

Thanks Ginger. I am always open to suggestions and looking to re-

evaluate things we have tried in the past that may have worked

temporarily or not at all. He is great about going to sleep and he

knows to be very quiet when he wakes and not disturb the rest of the

family. When he was younger ~ 4ish, he use to giggle and run videos

in his head. I believe that's a yeast problem. Now he tosses and

turns around that time (between 3 and 5 am), but I believe he's

running things in his head still to entertain himself. I'm wondering

if it is a phenol thing that may be causing problems b/c he craves

mustard, ketchup, spaghetti sauce and tons of apples. We give him No-

fenol with meals and with snacks but it may not be enough to do the

trick.

It is either addressing pain or inflammation, both of which can be

caused by food intolerance or environmental issues.
