Guest guest
Gretchen, Have you done any viral titers. Have you checked into PANDAS. OCD is a good sign of viral infections. Also there is some substantial research that indicate infectious diseases are the cause of psychiatric problems including OCD (Strep is indicated), bi polar and even schizopherenia (toxoplasmosis history was found in a study by Dr E. Fuller Torey). Perhaps it would be good to see if you could find out what is wrong and how to treat it once and for all. Also to see if 5HTP is going to help your daughter, you may want to do a plasma Amino Acid test to see if she has tryptophan deficiency, hight glutamic acid and high glutamate can be lowered by GABA . Good Luck, Haleh --- Gretchen <k12userfor2@...> wrote: > Hi , > > You mentioned that you tried 5HTP and didn't see the results that > you've seen with Zoloft for your son, but I wonder if the > combination of that and GABA would have helped... > > My dd has a great disposition in life, thank goodness, but has a > hard time dealing with changes in routine like: going on vacation, > shopping for new clothes, trying a new sport, changing anything in > our home, doesn't like food touching with other food, etc... Guest guest
Hi to the mome asking the zoloft question (sorry but if I click to see your name I will lose my place, lol) My daughter was prescribed 25 mg zoloft for anxiety / OCD by her neurologist back in 2002. By 2005 her dosage had been increased to 150 mg. In 2005 he mentioned wanting to monitor her liver for long term affects the drug may have on her. That was the day I decided to take her off of zoloft. I was terrified because I didn't know what to expect in weaning her off of it. The doctors were not opposed to my taking her off the drug (or at least they never said that they were) but they were not terribly supportive either. I now know it was the best thing I ever did. In our situation I do not believe my daughter ever should have been on zoloft. The anxiety she was experiencing was appropriately proportioned to the experiences she was having. She was being mainstreamed for the first time. But I understood her being dx with anxiety disorder but OCD? She never displayed any symptoms that I recognized as OCD. That is not until she started taking the zoloft. The neuro told me I had to be making some mistake, that there would either be no effect atall or an improvement. So I believed him, ignored my instoncts and kept her on it. I don't know if this will help atall , just wanted to share in the hopes that it may in some way.
