Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for your detailed reply! I've written some things below inbetween your message... > >Zoloft has been far better than any of the others. I think that is an individual thing and you have to find the one that is right for each person. I agree. I feel pretty good about Zoloft (as far as medications go), at least from what I've heard and read about when it's dealing with " anxiety/OCD " in chilren. > >I hate scaring people with suicide stories. Every person is different and what works for one may not work for the other. Yes. The doctor told us that Zoloft can work great for kids with anxiety/OCD issues, although, he was very careful to add that it could be dangerous for those dealing with depression. I wasn't concerned with that since we're not dealing with it (although she was in the past before combining enzymes, feingold diet, and removing products from our home that contained fragrance in the ingredient list. She's now a happy child, thank God!). > >That said, my daughter's anxiety and OCD were to the point of really interfering with her life and her happiness. She couldn't get through a day without extreme stress about things. We tried the natural things Gaba and 5HTP. They didn't do much of anything. I heard that GABA could cause more problems, depending on what's going on inside the individual, so I wonder if there would have been any difference using JUST the 5HTP along with a few B vitamins (if tolerated). Sometimes, there's just that little bit of " something " that can make ALL the difference. For some individuals it's one thing and yet for others, it's another. Also, our dd will show higher anxiety throughout the day if she comes across a chemical, such as someone wearing perfume or a fragrance in a product (laundry detergent, a shampoo on a dog that she hugged, a chemical in the environment,...). Have you ever tried removing fragrance from all the products in your home? We use some of the products at Aubrey Organics (www.aubrey-organics.com). Making these changes not only helped out my daughter's situation, but I also discovered that my allergies (stuffy nose and stinging eyes) went away after removing all products that had fragrance, such as dog and human shampoo, lotions, household cleaning products, laundry detergent. We have changed our foods and products to mostly organic. The chemicals in fragrance are toxin's that our body needs to remove, so having no fragrance in the home has made us ALL potentially healthier. > > My daughter is 14, almost 15, and has been on the Zoloft about three years. We started at 25 mg a day and then moved up to 50mg. Earlier in the year, her doctor increased it to 100mg a day because she is adult size. That really helped because we had seen a slight increase in anxiety and some sleep issues even with melatonin. I give her half mid morning to around lunch and the other half in the evening. Our doctor told us that about 20mg of Paxil (he might have said 10mg, can't remember the exact low amount he used)is about the same thing as 100mg of Zoloft, so that's good your daughter is finding relief from a low dosage. I've read that medications can start robbing our body of important needed nutrients, including B Vitamins, so be sure to supplement (which you probably already are) so that you're not seeing reactions to that depletion of vitamin reserves. > > No one can tell you what to do for your child and only you know how much the anxiety and OCD are affecting her life and well-being. We have been at this a long time and have traveled down many roads, special diets, supplements, glutathione treatments, secretin etc. I have found it is really trial and error. I've learned to trust my instincts and that works pretty well. Some kids improve with diet and supplements and some don't see great leaps or great reduction in anxiety. You have to find the right fit for your child and your family. Yes. I agree. I believe there's a special unique combination of things that will work BEST for each individual and it's up to us, through all of our doctor's visits, supplements, diets, research, and, most of all, trial and error, to discover what that unique combination of things is...
