My son, Conor, wears a helmet, and by day three we were only wearing it for around 45 minutes at a time. It took us two weeks to work up to whole day and night wear--I would say you're right on target and shouldn't worry. He'll be his old happy self! Pretty soon, he won't notice he's wearing it. Of course, you should make sure that the orthotist sees him soon to rule out any problems with fit. Beyond that, it's just a matter of adapting. You and your son will be fine; it's really hard at first, but kids adapt quickly. The helmet isn't really that heavy (for comparison between yours and ours, see " Conor " in the file section). Hang in there! Your son will figure out that the helmet is just another silly thing Mom insists on (like diapers and socks), and will go back to being cheerful. , Conor's mom
Guest guest
I can totally understand what you are going through. My daughter Abigail started her STAR band friday. I too think it is quite heavy, even though hers is a band and not a helmet. she seems very top heavy, always leaning her head on me or other things. She is only 5 1/2 months old and was begining to want to sit up alone, not any more. As for the fussiness I think that It will get better or at least thats what I have heard. Please pray that it DOES get better!! Abigail spent most of this evening screaming for no known reason. The longest time we got her to wear her band, for so far, was 2 hours. That was right before the screaming started. The one thing that I have done the past few days, while she has her band on, is to keep her entertained while wearing it. Switch activities when your son starts to get fussy. Keeping his mind away from what is on his head. Keep me informed on how you make out. Good luck!!! Amy & Abigail (banded 1/12/01)
