ALSO, we discovered a GREAT tasting Magnesium Citrate " NATURAL CALM " www.petergillham.com with a natural raspberry and lemon flavor. We mix 1 tsp. of Natural Calm with 1-2T hot water, wait fo rthe fizz to dissipate and then add more warm water to the cup. It tastes good. We use 1 tsp in the a.m. as a maintenance dose. During impaction we were using 1 tsp 3 times daily. WORKS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE bought this product at WHOLE FOODS. -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: " Kim Elliott " <kimelliott@...> > Hello, > > > > I was hoping someone could help me with a question. For my kids, constipation was caused by magnesium deficiency [i had to give a LOT of magnesium], yeast [GSE eliminated this problem], and certain supplements. What have you tried? Ideas here http://www.danasview.net/constip.htm >>My oldest daughter is anemic so she is supposed to > start iron supplement but she is already so constipated she can hardly pass > a stool. According to a good book I have, ferrous sulfate is very constipating, so try to use citrate, glycinate, succinate, or fumarate. Vitamin C helps with iron absorption, so take it with that. Calcium, magnesium, zinc, and antibiotics interfere with the absorption of iron, so don't take those at the same time. Sorry, I can't answer your question about colon cleanse. Guest guest
Look at this information on encopresis. This is what my younger son had, and how we resolved it: http://www.enzymestuff.com/rtencopresis.htm We used the Natural Calm mentioned earlier as the magnesium source. after some time, my son wanted to take tablets instead so we switched to Source Naturals Magnesium Malate. But as long as you pick a source of magnesium that is not oxide, you should be fine. Shoot for between 400 to 1000 mg of magnesium a day to keep stools flowing. And drink a reasonable amount of water. You want to keep giving magnesium until the stools are consistently loose but not to the point of diarrhea. Just to keep things moving through the intestines. I like using magnesium as the stool softener because if there might be other symptoms of magnesium deficiency the person has that would be addressed at the same time. But the trick to getting the chronic constipation to stop is to follow the bathroom schedule to retrain the colon muscles. the program says to keep at it a good 6 months even if the problem appears to stop earlier. My son regained good control of regular bowel movements into the 4th months, but we kept at it a couple months longer. He was 7 when we found this program. He had had this problem since a toddler. If you have any questions or concerns on this encopresis program, let me know. .
Guest guest
Hi Kim! We use the magnesium citrate for our son when backup is severe. It is nasty tasting, but does clean out really good!! Sounds like it wouldnt be something you could give without them throwing up! The only thing I can think of is to try aloe vera juice(whole form). The taste isnt that great either, but not as bad as the mag citrate and requires a lot less to work. You could probably put it in some juice or something to hide the taste! Also, some form of garlic could help!! My son is on puree and doesnt chew so it is easy to get in him. I use chopped version that comes in jar. I crush it just befor I put it in his food to activate the active ingredients in it. He produces a good movement everytime and also works as a natural enzyme, antibiotic, even has some magnesium in it, etc! So also maybe try the aloe, this also produces good movements, just not sure how much as a whole intestinal cleanse, but does get things moving. It is loaded with lots of nutrients and is an immune booster also! Your daughter that needs to start iron really needs something daily to keep her regular! Good luck! Guest guest
We have tried both Kirkman's Magnesuim and Aloe Vera juice. The Kirkman's magnesium is in a powder form that can be mixed with liquids - in our case we use it with lemon tea in the am, as it is stable with use in hot liquids. For the aloe vera juice, we use 's and it has no flavor at all!! I was shocked. It can be obtained at the health food store or online. For us, I have to keep using different things because one day it works, one day it doesn't. My daughter has a bad yeast problem that we are also trying to get under control. Guest guest
I just wanted to mention on the aloe juice! We have tried both the 's and whole forms!! We notice a big difference when it comes to the forms and constipation. 's distilling affects the laxative affects. The whole form definetly works better when it comes to constipation. We did see mild improvements with the george's but it really helped more with reflux and stomach pain. So I recommend(from our experience with trying both) to use whole form(organic if possible) for constipation! As far as supplementing, we also find that not using everything every day, works better. Things seem to work better with our son if we supplement as needed on some things, example- aloe vera, garlic, etc. magnesium occaissionally also(still a little nervouse on the calcium/magnesium ratio), but do still use the mag, just not every day!! I can say our son is doing so much better this winter, I almost cant believe it. I credit it to the natural supplementing. He hasnt even had seizure after seizure(typically viral/gi induced). I dreaded every winter befor, this year isnt the same! ! Jenie<>< > > We have tried both Kirkman's Magnesuim and Aloe Vera juice. Guest guest
Hi, For those who use whole aloe, what are your dosages? For the discussion, just wanted to add that we use the whole form of aloe, too. The brand we use is Whole Life and we get it at Whole Foods (WF). My sons, who have ongoing constipation issues, like the orange flavor and we put it in OJ. We were going to get the 's Aloe, but couldn't find it at Whole Foods and wanted to start the aloe, as directed by our DAN. Didn't want to wait to order online. We were told by a WF long-time employee that WF had various aloe juices/concentrates independently tested a while back, and Whole Life had a good concentration of aloe. Evidently some aloe brands are not as potent. We use 2 TBL two times a day for children weighing 38 and 55 pounds. For constipation, for the last month we have been using the aloe mentioned above, Benefiber, Miralax, and a probiotic powder, Mindlinx...all prescribed by our DAN. We also added 5 child enemas at the beginning of the regimen to get things moving at the " top and the bottom " as our doctor said! Guest guest
We use the whole aloe kinda as needed!! The george's is great, especially with no taste/smell. But I can say that it doesnt seem to have that umph when it comes to constipation. It diffenitly gives relief with reflux and stomach pain. But we do find that whole aloe is better and not needed every day. Our natural doc said to give the george's 1 ounce x 2 a day(he was around 40lbs then, now 45lbs). That was the first time we ever tried aloe and was surprised at the results. We ran out and used whole form(george's isnt that easy to get for us). Was very happy to see how much better it worked(the whole form). Now is used as needed/2-3times a week. The george's is distilled and the ingredients of the laxative part is takin out. Now we did see some movement results, but needed so much more. Aloe is so good for the gi and is also an immune booster. Wouldnt be without it now after seeing what it has done for our son!! Our son has been on the miralax for a quite a while and want him desperatly off. He is down to under half the dosage that was originally script for him(half of the half). He was originally on two full adult doses. I personally dont think it is safe for children and cant wait tell he is completely off. Believe it or not, we are seeing really good results when I add real garlic/I crush it then add to food just befor he eats. He doesnt chew and so doesnt know he even had it. It really gets the gi moving and is a strong antibiotic and enzyme. I use both kinda as I feel is needed and works well this way. take care, Jennie<>< annekathrynmoore <annemoore@...> wrote: Hi, For those who use whole aloe, what are your dosages?
