Guest guest
Jenna- I have had the same problem for a while. When you do get something to stay in, it usually isn't nutritious enough to energize you is it? I try to stick with things that have higher protein. Yougurt is a good one. gives you that calcuim we need too. I also try to force down a piece of high grain toast, with peanut butter and bananas every morning. It really does energize me. Then do the yogurt for lunch. I try to eat dinner, but usually after cooking it for my family, the site of it nauseates me. doc doesn't know why it is happening, my LFT's are normal too. But I do have a verrrrry enlarged liver, so I think it may be the culprit. I don't know where you are, but here in WA we have a place called Jamba Juice. It is fruit smoothies, with what they call boosts added to them. You can an energy boost or a protein boost. When I really have no appetite but really need enrgy I opt for one of them. The one I have is non fat to boot. But you can do smoothies at home with a store bought protien powder - we do that too. Maybe that will help, it helps get rid of the nausea for me too. Good Luck. Guest guest
Jenna - I had the same happen. I just couldnt eat or even look at food without being sick or feeling nauseas. It was, and still is to a degree, like being pregnant suffering from morning sickness but for 24 hrs. I ended up making my own soups, especially vegetable.(no fat or cream added) I lived off fruit and salads and huge plate full of fluffy mashed potatoes with an egg added. With me the smell of meat and the smell even of cooking made be bilious. I think you need to go to your doc & get something for stomach pain and have it checked out. I used to take something for it but cant remember the name. Somac is the med I take now to control the acid. Im not so sure its the withdrawal of pred for this, Ive always assumed that, in my case, mercaptopurine kicking in. When unable to eat, I found eating sweet, v crisp apples (by the bagful almost) kept a lining on my stomach. Im still pretty skinny but over time eating without being sick has lessened a huge amount. Sorry I cant be of further help but your doctor needs to know how long youre going without food and give you the appropriate med. regards Jan [ ] Suggestions please... > I have been off of prednisone for about 8 weeks now and my levels > have remained normal with 50mg of imuran. Guest guest
Hi Jenna, sounds like we are going through similar experiences. I am not off pred, not even on pred, but I am nauseous almost all the time and it's hard to find food that does not hurt my stomach or make me feel sick. My doc has given my this thick brown-black stuff to drink 15 min before I eat. I have no idea what it could be called in the US, here it's called pulsaneu. It looks and feels and tastes (?) like soil and I think is some kind of clay based medicine to line the stomach. It works well enough to eat light and bland food without much discomfort afterwards. I cannot bear to take it regularly, never been too fond of soil before, but it works well when I have to eat with clients/colleagues etc. Mind you I was told that when toddlers eat soil (yes they do, unfortunately, I've seen it with my own eyes) they have a craving for certain minerals. Apart from that what has worked well food wise recently are soups, I've gone right through all the varieties of meat free packet soups available and I am ready to start again. And low fat yoghurts and rice puddings. Rice seems to be ok and I've started a tour of the various basmatis and jasmine brands, my family groans when they see what I bring home from the shops. Luckily, they are all able to cook and I can duck out with my packet soup and dry toast. I found I can handle fruit when I peel it, especially pears. It's my daily riddle now: what will go down well... Somehow I can handle food better when I eat around 11 am (not always possible with work etc.). Good luck! Hang on in there. But talk to your doctor, this is no way to enjoy life. Sophie
Guest guest
Jenna, I have recurring acute pancreatitis in addition to the AIH, which was discovered only last week. I began dropping too much weight from having so many days when I couldn't eat at all. My doctor told me he was seriously concerned about my nutritional status and that I absolutely had to eat. This actually seemed pretty funny in an ironic sort of way for someone who was 100 lbs overweight just over a year ago. Anyway, I began eating at least a little something every two hours while I was awake. It was VERY hard in the beginning. I ate when I didn't want to eat. I ate when I knew it would cause me pain. I ate when I knew it would make me nauseated. Sometimes, it was only 2-3 bites, but at least it was something. Try starting with things that are somewhat bland but have some protein. Some suggestions for what worked for me include cottage cheese, yogurt, egg, tuna, baked potato with cheese What I could tolerate varied from day to day or even hour to hour. Don't know if this helps or not. I do know that it is very hard to eat when you know it will cause pain or nausea. Please know that you are in my prayers. W [ ] Suggestions please... I have been off of prednisone for about 8 weeks now and my levels have remained normal with 50mg of imuran. (YIPPIE!!) I am still suffering withdrawals and they seem to come and go. My biggest issue with my withdrawals recently has been my appetite. I have not been hungry at all and whenever I eat I feel so so sick. My stomach hurts and I get extremly nauseous. does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get some nutrition but not necessarily eat much. I have been feeling so sick recently I haven't been able to eat for about 5 days now. I tried to eat today and I wanted to die. I don't really have the time to feel horrible since I have class to attend and an absence drops my final grade by a letter grade everyday that I miss. My teachers and advisors are making a few exceptions for me, but I can't afford to feel sick and miss class or teaching. Any suggestions would be great! I have been taking phenogren and a few other things to help the nausea, but it just makes me tired and not want to eat more. The phenogren just keeps me from throwing up whatever may be in my stomach. But it just doesn't seem like the right answer to me. I appreciate ANY suggestions.Jenna
Guest guest
Jenna.... I really don't believe your stomach problems are the result of withdrawal and suggest you see a gastro as soon as possible...there could be many treatable things wrong, but it's not wise to let it go.... love jerry
Guest guest
Uh oh Sophie - it tastes like soil? Better stay away from those watermelon seeds! Love, Carole K
Guest guest
Jenna, another easy item for us digestionally challenged is tofu. It's a great source of protein and a natural HRT candidate (soya). It's so bland, you will taste nothing at all. It doesn't even leave a trace if you drop it on the dining room floor in despair... Actually, marinated and fried with some rice and soya sauce, it's quite ok. And of course, there must be 1001 recipes for delicious tofu dishes. Hard to believe, but I love cooking. My speciality is Indian and North African food. Our spice cupboard has the weirdest ingredients and we can prepare a mean Southern Indian brunch. Oh well, one day... Guest guest
This is probably the peptide withdrawal effect, it usually lasts as long as you are increasing the AFP dosage; once you have stable dosing levels, the effect should subside in a few days. If you are using chewable tablets, you want to get to the 3 tablet/meal dosing level, which is equal to one capsule. > Hi, > > I have a 2.4 years old son. Guest guest
Thanks a lot for the reply. I am giving the capsules. I will try again by starting with minimal dosage.
