Guest guest
Hi. Our daughter is on an SSRI, and I understand GSE is contraindicated for her. What OTC product can be used with an SSRI that will attack yeast? Missy in Md.
Guest guest
My adult son is on an SSRI. Strong probiotics have been keeping yeast under control. However, we use Advanced Biocidin when we need to kill the yeast. > Hi. > > Our daughter is on an SSRI, and I understand GSE is contraindicated > for her. Guest guest
> Why is GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract?) contraindicated when you are taking an SSRI (antidepressant)? GSE slows down Phase I liver metabolism. This is not a problem, even with SSRI medication, if the Phase I is normal or fast, but can be a problem if the Phase I is slow. It will affect the metabolism of the SSRI and cause problems with blood levels and storage/build-up of the medication. Dana
Guest guest
I have used GSE for my son as one of several natural antifungals that I rotate when he is getting yeast a lot. He's been on Zoloft during this time and it hasn't seemed to cause any problems to use GSE for 4 days then switch to something else. This is a good way to use GSE anyway, as it kills LOTS of good bacteria. You wouldn't want to use it continuously, for this reason and because the candida would become resistant to it. We have kept yeast away very successfully this way for over 3 1/2 years, rotating natural antifungals. At first we had to do it all the time, but not anymore - just once in awhile when he seems to be flaring up. Here's a page I wrote on this: http://www.livejournal.com/users/tmykland/682.html And the rest of my autism weblog: http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=tmykland Hope it's helpful, Terri At 08:48 AM 7/17/2005, you wrote: > > > Why is GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract?) contraindicated when you are >taking an SSRI (antidepressant)? > > >GSE slows down Phase I liver metabolism. Guest guest
I am curious about the source that states that GSE is contraindicated with SSRIs. Do you refer to heavy duty prozac/zoloft, or things like 5-HTP? Attention deficit medication such as ritalin is also supposed to be an SSRI. I am curious why the contraindication. There are many OTC products such as caprylic acid, uva ursi, etc that can work against yeast. However, I have no idea if they are also contraindicated with SSRIs. If you have a reference about the GSE/SSRI connection, I would be very interested in looking at it. --- <alexander@...> wrote: > Hi. > > Our daughter is on an SSRI, and I understand GSE is > contraindicated > for her. GSE slows down phase I liver metabolism. This is fine if your phase I is normal or fast, but can cause problems with the metabolism of SSRI medications if your phase I is already slow. > There are many OTC products such as caprylic acid, uva > ursi, etc that can work against yeast.
