Guest guest
>>> Is bad sulfery smelling gas a sign of yeast or yeast die off? I associate sulfur smell with bad bacteria. How are the stools? Some bacteria can use carbon or sulfur instead of oxygen. The by-product is hydrogen sulfide among other things. The sulfur by-products give a rotten egg or super foul smelling stench with bms. One of my son's had an adverse bacteria problem. The child reaked because of it: bad breath, body odor even after a showder....constipation is a great environment for promoting bad bacteria. Treating the bacteria and constipation made the smell go away. .

Guest guest
>>> How did you treat the bad bacteria? My son had this bacteria/constipation problem for several years so it was rather severe. I gave extra proteases and probiotics for about 5 months hoping to drive out the problem. Although these noticeably helped (seen by better stools and a drop in the horrible smell), it didn't get rid of the problem. I gave 6 extra capsules of proteases (like Peptizyde, ViraStop, etc), and 3 capsules of the higher potency Culturelle a day. In the 5th month, I gave 10 days of Source Naturals colloidal silver as an antibiotic...the throat spray. There was some die-off the first couple of days and then my son felt great. At the end of the 10 days, the bacteria problem was gone and I reduced the enzymes and probiotics back to a maintenance dose (enzymes with meals, and 1 Culturelle a day). That knocked out the bacteria problem. I suppose a more moderate/mild problem may have been controlled with just the enzymes and probiotics, but for our issues, the round of silver was needed. My son ended up with the condition called encopresis, so we needed to follow the encopresis protocol to get his colon back in shape. I used magnesium citrate (Natural Calm) and then Source Naturals magnesium malate as the laxative. Here is the write-up on encopresis: http://www.enzymestuff.com/rtencopresis.htm It took me y-e-a-r-s to find out what was actually going on and how to fix it. My son was in 2nd grade before his was fully potty-trained due to this encopresis. Ugh! He felt so much better afterwards to say nothing of his self-esteem going up. A sign of encopresis is compaction, chronic constipation, streaking or soiling in the underwear, child not 'feeling' when they need to go, uncontrollable wetting. If you have any questions on this, give me a holler. .

He's almost 11 and completely independent in that area (minus the ever present prompt to wash his hands, lol). I'm not sure what to do here. Since this is new, give it a few days to week or two and see if it persists. It may be just a temporary indigestion problem which will pass in a few days. A bacteria problem needing treatment would stick around for awhile. If the smell sticks or get worse, then consider action. If you have probiotics, you might want to give a little extra for a few days to help with any indigestion. .

Guest guest
>>>> How do you know if constipation is related to bacteria or yeast? I tend to think of bacteria causing the foul stench...not the regular poop aroma, but a putrid smell that reaks so badly you practically run out of the house...like a stink-bomb went off. Constipation causes an anerobic environment which doesn't allow the good bacteria to live, so the bad bacteria have all the room to themselves living off the carbon and sulfur. Same thing is an issue on hog farms. Yeast may have a 'yeasty' smell (think of bread rising), and a stringy, frothy, or cottage cheese type consistency to the stools. But yeast doesn't make the really foul smell. Bad breath or body odor isn't characteristic of yeast either but is of bacteria. Inappropriate silly gigiggling or drunk behavior is characteristic of yeast but not bacteria. Dark circles under the eyes and poor 'detox' symptoms can be associated with either yeast or bacteria. Someone else might have other tips to distinguish the two. .
