Guest guest
My 7yo son has problems with his behavior. He likes to touch kids, immature behavior, says things that are out of context, and doesn't understand instructions well when doing schoolwork. I had homeschooled him until this year and thought I would try him in school to see how he would do. By day three, he was causing problems. I didn't tell the school about his problems which according to his OT and speech therapists are related to vestibular and proprioceptive dysfunctions. I just didn't want them labeling him in his school record. I did tell them that he likes to talk and that he's never been in school before and that he would need help adjusting to seven hours in school. Well, his teacher didn't do much to help him get use to the routine, like putting your things away when arriving at school, handing in homework papers, returning library books, taking Accelarated Reader tests, getting his lunch in the lunchline, getting his things together when it's time to leave, etc. Also, the guidance counsler and I decided that he needed his juice on his desk to drink throughout the morning due to going five hours without eating carbs, and he has the acetone breath issue if he doesn't eat carbs. The teacher doesn't make sure he drinks it every day. The teacher tells me that he's not a behavior issue. He just has attention problems. Oh, yeah. Last week he got two yellow slips and was suspended one day after the second one. Now, they want to do a child study. What does this involve? And, what will I be allowed to input? I do not like the speech therapist's behavior with the children. I observed her last year when she worked with my preschooler for receptive and expressive language. She had this attitude with the other child in the room that he wasn't listening and like he was wasting her time. She would huff and puff at the child if he did things wrong. Poor child. I can see her doing my 7yo that way. I don't want therapy with her. Thanks for any help.
