Hi ALL;

Does anyone know if hypothyroidism can cause autism? In a NATURAL

HEALING BOOK BY GARY NULL PH.D., he says that some autism cases are

caused by hypothyroidism. and can be corrected with thyroid medications

that are all natural. It could be hereditary, passed down by the mother

from birth.Has anyone heard of this? Thanks Joyce.

Joyce I have hypothyroidism and have had it since age 24. I have three

children, two are NT, the last one has a diagnosis of dyspraxia, which we are

*presuming* came from oxygen loss at birth. I'm sure there is some evidence

that a hypothyroid mom gave birth to a child with autism, but in my instance, I

cannot say that my hypothyroid caused autism, as it is not present in 2 out of 3

situations, and the last one's " situation " seems to have cause from birth.

Joyce,

The majority of cases of ASD are caused by mercury. Having said that, however,

getting our little one's thyroid tested, finding the hypothyroidism and using

Armour Thyroid was a huge piece of the puzzle here. I would say that next to

chelation, Armour Thyroid was most responsible for losing any ADD behaviors.

Really? That's definitely an incentive for me to get my son's

thyroid checked. And something I can FINALLY get done at his regular

ped. He gained quite a bit of weight after using LDN and I wondered

if his thyroid was affected. I've had my thyroid checked over and

over and over, and they say it's fine. So we are now working on

adrenals with natural remedies which seem to really help both me and

my son. THanks!

No, it causes a condition called CRETINISM, which I am sure you can find

described on the

web or in medical books.

Many autistic children do have low thyroid, which if untreated can also lead to

mental

retardation so it is worth checking into this.

Even with my very dim view of modern medical practice, I really doubt anyone is

going to

make the mistake of misdiagnosing cretinism as autism.

Also most states requrie newborns to have thyroid tests.

FWIW, the mercury probably caused the thyroid issues?

Most mainstream docs test only a couple of the thyroid indicators and usually

not the important ones. Someone else can tell you which for sure, but there's

T3, T4, and free T3 and free T4 and perhaps another one. I think it's the free

T3 and free T4 which are important and usually NOT done.

T3, T4, TSH, free T3 and T4 and also perioxidase antibody, which would indicate

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disorder.

Without a doubt the thyroid problems were caused by the mercury, probably

something we will deal with a long time or maybe forever, thyroid problems, that

is.
