Guest guest
Thank you for your advice Neil, , and Dana We have never tried Ox Bile or milk thistle, although I have heard of both of those before. I know milk thistle is very high in oxalates and my son is on the low oxalate diet but I'm tempted to try it. I think Ox Bile could be helpful too. I'm not sure how I could get that into him because it must taste absolutely awful. I wonder about his stomach acidity. He often has undigested stuff in his stools despite using enzymes. I know it is not his diet because my toddler daughter eats all of the same stuff and she has normal coloured stools. She is still breastfed too though so that could be clouding the picture. Dana, I'm not sure about adding back the wheat with enzymes. Before my son started his recovery with diet change/enzymes/supps he was a very very skinny little boy. He was pale, weak, and frighteningly thin - as in his pelvic bones showed through his skin, Yuck. We did a gluten trial a few months ago (using enzymes) and he has loose stools for a couple of days. Nothing too serious though. What was your son's transition like from gf back to gluten in the diet? When my son has supplemental calcium his anxiety level skyrockets and he becomes constipated. He does very well on magnesium - lots of it. Oops, baby is awake, Gotta go, Thanks again Leigh Anne > > Hi Leigh Anne, > > Congratulations on getting the bowels working this well ! Guest guest
Leigh Ann, I wouldn't worry that much about the low oxylate thing with the milk thistle. When are you giving the enzymes ? Maybe you should give them a little earlier before the meal ? I wouldn't suggest adding back the Gluten yet, even with the enzymes, since you worked this hard to make this much progress on the digestion and you are sure that it was the GFCF that helped. Maybe further down the road would be better. If he doesn't swallow pills, it could be a challenge getting the Ox Bile in. Guest guest
> What was your son's transition like from gf back to gluten in the > diet? At first, I challenged wheat by adding back bread from a regular store. My kids regressed, and at first I thought it was the wheat, but I learned later it was the corn syrup in the bread. Once I found wheat-based bread without corn syrup, the kids were fine. And the combination of adding back wheat, and removing rice and corn, caused noticeable improvements. On another message board, someone posted that adding taurine can darken bms. > When my son has supplemental calcium his anxiety level skyrockets and > he becomes constipated. Have you ever tried giving more? Have you tried giving magnesium, vitamin D, and vitamin K with the calcium? My son was calcium toxic, but lots of supplements were constipating for him because he was severely deficient. Dana
