Guest guest
Hi , I personally would not recommend anything that has nutrasweet (aspartame) in it. I have read many reports on that stuff and it has caused many health problems for some people. It turns into formaldehyde in your body... I used to drink diet drinks and would get horrible headaches, then I stopped drinking them and they went away...so I did an experiment on myself and began drinking them again and the headaches came back then stopped and they went away. So I can say with me at least it was from the diet drinks. I don't know much about splenda though...it is supposed to be made from sugar. If I were you I would stick to raw sugar or stevia... at least you know it isn't going to turn into some toxic chemical in his/her body...which is very scary to me. ~Georgia -----Original Message----- From: f casti71@... Guest guest
Hi ....well I know that crystal light is made with splenda now and that's what I would give my son. I'm looking to cut calories for him instead of him drinking juice which adds a lot of calories into his day. Thanks. Guest guest
Not allowed in our house. Sugar substitutes are known to cause cancer, they are also to be avoided by any child with hyperactive issues. See Dr. Mercola's website on sugar substitutes like Splenda and aspartame. Personally, they are better of ingesting the real sugar than this stuff. Aim for plain water, or fruit flavored water if it's natural. > > How does everyone feel about their child drinking something like crystal light...or things with sugar replacement? Guest guest
Splenda is the same type of thing as aspartame, and just as unhealthy. I know it can be hard to cut calories, but there are many other things that can be tweaked in his diet to do this. My kids only drink water or rice milk. And on occassion juice. They won't consume what is not available. I have found that many foods can be made lower calorie, and healthier. Sometimes just changing one snack or meal, the way it's made can cut enough calories. But your right that by no means do you want him drinking a lot of juice. It is not nutritious and is empty calories. You may be able to find some healthy teas or naturally flavored drinks at the HFS instead of juice if he is opposed to water. Stick with stevia or xylitol. > > Hi ....well I know that crystal light is made with splenda now and that's what I would give my son. Guest guest
Splenda is NOT safe it contains sucralose which is just as dangerous as aspertame. Please dont give it to your children. I also stopped taking drinks, gum, food etc that contained either ingredient and my dizzy spells headaches and cognitive skills have improved. Aspartame for one is known to cause memory loss dizzy spells and neurological problems. I read labels on EVERYTHING b/c products w/ sugar even sometimes have sucrolose. Just google both ingredients and you can read about all the horrible things they can do to your body. Guest guest
, You can drink herbal teas & water... herbal teas are great hot & over ice. When making Iced Tea make it stronger so the ice doesn't dilute it. I had gastric bypass 6 years ago and lost 135 pounds...I can't drink high sugar stuff or fake sugar drinks like crystal light. I drink lots of water and herbal teas. I get major headaches from the fake stuff (like I mentioned in an earlier post). Remember before there were diet sugar free chemical laden stuff there was water & herbal teas... soft drinks and such are a fairly new invention. ~Georgia Re: QUESTION ABOUT DRINKS Splenda is NOT safe it contains sucralose which is just as dangerous as aspertame. Guest guest
I actually just looked up splenda and am reading that it is pretty safe to use. I'd love to see something that says different because I am interested in learning since I use this often. There have been no long term studies on this fake product. I would avoid all artificial sweeteners and just drink water. You don't need all that other garbage anyway; diabetes or no diabetes. I'd love to see something that says different because I am interested in learning since I use this often. It's really hard to judge safety with any food products, because the supposed watchdogs such as the FDA don't do their job. At all. No one is funding studies to look at the effects of fake food, because there's no money in that. A reasonable rule is, if it's fake, it's not healthy. Sally Fallon's " Nourishing Traditions " is a great book to read -- the recipes are good and so are the explanations of why fake stuff wrecks our bodies. Guest guest
, If you insist on using a sweetener, use Xylitol. Your body produces Xylitol internally during the breakdown of whole sugar but it doesn't have the calories. It is probably the best thing our there for a sugar substitute. The best kind is made from tree bark, but is a little more expensive. Good Luck, Neil _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of casti71@... Guest guest
I would dig deeper for information on Splenda. The results you found may have said its safe but lets remember we are also being told injecting mercury into little babies is safe. I dont trust anything anymore. Like ready to make powder drinks. I will just mention that one day last summer, my mother made Crystal Light for my kids to drink [they no longer have food problems], and I had some also. It kept me awake ALL NIGHT, I got ZERO minutes of sleep. So if you try this, be sure to give it in the morning, just in case. Dana
Guest guest
I drank Nutrasweet-containing drinks in college (1984; pretty much when they first started putting it in soda). I only drank 1 diet Mt. Dew daily, but it was enough to give my symptoms prompting a brain scan for a tumor (balance loss, one-sided headaches). I walked in to my ENT's office for a follow-up visit with a diet Dew in hand. The insightful doc told me to stop drinking the soda and the symptoms disappeared. If I drink or eat anything containing Nutrasweet I get that one-sided heache and feel rotten for the entire next day. It must depend on how much I ingest, because a piece of gum with Nutrasweet doesn't seem to bother me. I do not allow my kids to eat anything with sugar substitutes, although I know they have done so and haven't suffered like I do... as far as I know. Avoid it. Their developing brains and neurological systems will thank you. Pam > > > > How does everyone feel about their child drinking something like > crystal light...or things with sugar replacement? Guest guest
My son as actually had crystal light or something similar to it many times before and he has not had any trouble with it. Basically when he eats or drinks anything, there is never a problem with any of it. The only things that bother him is apple juice and orange juice. They cause bloating and diarrhea. The same thing happens to me if I would drink that. I know to avoid those things. I drink things that are sugar free with a sugar replacer. Guest guest
Many people use stevia as a sugar substitute. It is available in both powder and liquid. I think the liquid tastes better. Nutrasweet is especially toxic. It can cause MS-like lesions in the brain. Pamela " Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you're scared.
