Guest guest
Hi.. My name is Lia and my son is Christos.. just turned 15. Pdd/nos hyperlexic. Years ago.. he was dx on dec 21 1994(merry christmas) . I had a child who was loving... chased his sister and had pretend play.. he just never got past the babbling stage. Loss of eye contact and could not point to things. Loved to be around his sister and her friends.. often imitating..alot what she did with her friends. But.. he did did not talk.. thomas the tank engine.. disney and barney were his loves. But... he had tremendous temper tantrums.. mystery rashes... from age 6 months after exposure to chicken pox and he would continue to get these rashes up until age 4 years old.. no fevers.. good appetite for the same thing.. but not sick. He self eliminated all foods at age 3 to just " white foods " .. primarily ff's.. cheerios. I jumped into the healing the gut.. with evening primrose oil.. Vance's dari free potato milk and lots of DMG... throwing in acidophllis and at times when he would take it.. super nu thera. He went through AIT twice . He had from two weeks of age... a sudden diahhrea and we switched to prosobee. He would have diahhrea moreso around 3 years old.. foul smelling and once I started giving him some supplements.. went through having pale yellow to almost white stool. Tested through Great plains with Dr. Shaw... showed some problems in long chain fatty acid absorption. He continued not to eat but only ff's. God only knows what I did... or was it that he was just hypelexic and deemed to improve? He potty trained himself in both areas at 3.7 and dressed himself at appropriate age.. including zipping.. buttoning and tying. He has alot of typical features.. BUT... his language suffered while his decoding and obbessive spelling increased. Try lugging hundreds of plastic letters around and books. To make a long story short.. I eventually stopped all supplements mostly.. the cost.. and he was making improvements slowly with language which eventually became the serious issue. Today... he has empathy but does not get social situations but tries. He has trouble learning language. I feel there is a VICE GRIP on his language centers of his brain and I have not yet found what I can do to help aside from drilling him all day long and in school with language therapy.. years ago.. after describing him over the phone to temple grandin.. in her blunt way.. said.. " o.. he is NOT BAD OFF " !! ok.. that gave me so much hope. BUT... he is increasing but it is a stuggle.. prompting to get him to make complete sentences and everything is soo concrete.. but I feel he knows it inside his head but cannot tell me abstractly his thoughts except in the most concrete way. I have decided to go back on DMG.. EVENING primrose oil and test his hair. Is it too late for him? I again.. say.. it is like he is within my " reach " ... He longs to be with typical kids... when his step brothers are around from college.. he hangs and follows them... he is a joy at home.. no behaviors at all.. just still loves thomas.. but is branching out to other interests. He self talks thomas the tank engine and I tell him..'no thomas talk when we are in school or at the store " ... He loves to vacation and eat out and is a joy. BUT.. his language and social skills.. he is vunerable and afraid he will go with a stranger.. not understanding who is bad and who is good. Maybe he does.. inside.. but does not tell me. I hope this post goes through this time.. any imput on where to start.. I bought the DMG.. he is a big kid.. 200 lbs.. how much to give and how often... on OMEGA 3... might help? thanks for any imput.. Lia .. by the way... I stopped all shots after 2 years old.. maybe early. i have to rack my brain... no boosters.. he has no fillings and he eats green vegetables now.. everything.. he eats... I never thought I would see the day.. he eats steamed green vegetables and lettace.. he still does not like tomatoes.. but loves black olives.. broccolli.. snow peas.. and this just evolved.. what did I do? or didn't do? I don't know. He loves to help around the house.. makes his bed on his own... showers independently since age 12... empties the dishwasher and puts away groceries.. copies his step brothers whatever they do. but.. he just can't " shoot the breeze " he tries.. he tries to talk and but it is what he knows.. example..Christos says.. to his step brother.. " jeff, thomas is a good engine " and jeff is patient and says " yes " .. but christos will do this when the conversation going on is NOT about thomas.. but it is Christos' way of being like them.. does this all make sense? the topic is not appropriate but the desire is passionate to be like the other kids... thanks again.. Guest guest
Lia, as well as all of the good information on Dana's site, there is also a very useful file on viral treatments in the " files " section of this group (look to your left, in the little light blue box). The file is by " mysuperteach " (Anita Kugelstadt). take care Rene > > DAna.. thank you.. I am going to try anti virals..
Guest guest
> ok.. dana.. spoon feed me... anti virals.. I believe in the health food store? That is where I bought mine. Vitamins A and C, Virastop enzyme, olive leaf extract. Monolaurin is probably available at health food stores, or you can use Lauricidin, which I think is only available online. >> I am on valtrex for herpes simplex one... for my cornea... Valtrex is a common medication rx for kids with virus issues. I am interested in your comment that it is herpes in your cornea. Viruses cause loss of language for my son, and visual stims. How is the virus affecting your cornea? >>how much omega 3? My son needed a lot of other supplements first, before he tolerated Omega 3, but you can try with straight fish oil, see if that is tolerated. Start low, work up as required. >> should I buy the one that is refriderated? Not necessarily. I didn't. Dana
