Nell,

Our daughter is a positive responder to lod. However, I was of the

same mind frame re vit C. I just could NOT remove it. She only

tolerates the sago palm C. About 8 mos into lod, I ran out and was

waiting on a mail order. She experienced major 'dumping' symptoms

during the wait!! Since then I've substantially reduced vit C supp and

have seen no real negatives from it.

Thanks for telling your experience. I flirted with LOD last fall,

getting the supps in place and starting to reduce high oxalate foods.

I can't be certain but I did think dropping vit C caused trouble, and

I bailed on the diet. Recently I shifted n's antiviral protocol

from kitchen-cabinet approach (lysine, echinacea, transfer factor,

sambucol, mushroom extract, LDN) to only LDN and high-dose vit C. I

haven't gotten as high as Dana -- we're up to 25 g/day so far, with no

diarrhea yet -- but it's working really well.

Did you use an alternative antioxidant, or figure whatever else you

were giving covered it?

I haven't crossed LOD off the list forever, but I admit I'm hoping I

won't have to revisit it....

Nell,

Over the years it has been apparent that my daughter reacts in

varying degrees of distress to foods, supps, anything that goes in

her mouth, sometimes just breathing things or topicals. It was a

major eye opener to me to have seizures well controlled on gfcfsf

after so many years of high dose meds doing little good. In looking

over the low oxalate symptoms pattern, many seemed pertinent; same

with the list of foods - we had already ditched some of them due to

the negative response that they caused. I just tried to refine it a

bit - somewhat difficult. She definitely has a preference for some

of those high oxalate foods! and gets reinforced by others to eat

what she wants. We also have family history of stones and gout.

In ignorance this fall, I tried some eggplant not realizing that it

was high oxalate. It was soemthing we do not usually eat and I was

trying to vary the food pattern. Her response to it sent me looking

to oxalate content. Of course it was a high food. I saw neuro

irritability 8-9[on a 10 point scale] for about ~30 hours~. It was

enough to get me pouring charcoal and alka seltzer gold down her.

Both usually help with this pattern and sometimes will help prevent

her going into a seizure mode. Dropping the C caused the same nasty

response along with urinary urgency and frequency - what others have

described as 'dumping.' She does get some C in a multi, but I've

dropped her to about 1 gm per day. I've upped the E. As a result of

recent testing she's on a rotation diet. It, too, seems to be

beneficial - a real pain though!

Have you seen positives after the dumping symptoms?
