white fillings

Is there any preference of " white " fillings that one is better than

another? I asked my dentist to send me a material safety data sheet

on the components of the filling she planned on using. The product

name is EsthetX Improved Micro matrix Restorative. It listed the

following components...

1 Titanium Dioxide

2 Silica Amorphous

3 Barium boron fluoroalumino silcate glass

4 Urethane modified Bis-GMA dimethacrylate

( FYI There is a website http://www.caulk.com that lists all

the components of most, if not all, the white fillings.)

My son, who is receiving the filling, is autistic and I don't want

to put any " unnecessary " chemicals into his system. I haven't heard

anything bad YET about the " white " fillings. Any comments would be

appreciated.

My dentist sent me a MSDS on PHOTAC-FIL APLICAP POWDER(contains

glass powder). From my understanding, this is part of a glass

ionomer cement,which is a mixture of glass and an organic acid.

there was NO material sent on an 'organic acid' So I looked up

PHOTAC-FIL APLICAP and came up with a powder and a liquid. The

liquid contains

1. 2-HYDROXYETHYLATE METHACRYLATE

2. POLYETHYLENE POLYCARBONIC ACID

3. WATER

4. DIURETHANE DIMETHACRYLATE

5. MAGNESIUM HEMA ESTHER

I am in the process of looking all these up, but I thought I would

share what the Dentist sent. They said they put this in children

with other medical problems and very young children. They seemed a

little on the defensive side.

It seemed from my search on the internet that DIAMOND LITE and

ZIRCONIUM OXIDE are the safest non metal material, but I don't know

if these are added to other things or the name of the

material/bonding agent itself.

If anyone can add information to support or disprove this...please

do so!!

It all a little confusing and disjointed information. I had to go

to MANY sites to try and find anything but pieces here and there.

I will write if I find anything else...If anyone asks their Dentist

and finds out something let me know. Be prepared for

defensiveness...Does anyone know how to find a holistic dentist or

have any suggestions?

It appears the best thing is ceramic but it is very expensive compared

to plain white goo fillings.

Mercury fillings go in silver-colored and for some turn black.

My parents did not believe in the the dentist nor getting us to practice good

oral hygiene. My mouth got taken care of when I was about 21after I graduated

and got a full time job and had maybe eight fillings. Ok, so this is 22-23 years

ago. I " upgraded " to a white filling back then. Looking back I don't think it

compromised my health, or so I don't think. Do you think these white fillings

have mercury?

I'm so grateful for being taught how to take care of my teeth and hope to pass

that on to my boys. We really stress oral care and so far no cavities for them.

We do see a mercury free dentist and I do have one mercury filling I will get

removed this summer. I guess I've been thinking mercury free since white and put

my head in the sand. I guess I'm ready to hear what others think.

Any thoughts on these white fillings I had so many years ago if they contain

mercury?
