Guest guest
I ran into some info on this while researching my posted question on copper and thyroid. In any event, I found some autoimmune references related to hashimotos and Graves and what not to take. You have to read down a bit, but it gibes some information. This site is excellent if you are dealing with a thyroid issue. If not, it does have very good information on metals, minerals and what they do to the body. Hope it helps some... http://www.ithyroid.com/copper.htm > > Does anyone know a list of supplements, vitamin, minerals, herbs, etc. > > That are to be avoided with autoimmune disease? Guest guest
Whoa...I am supplementing her with zinc right now... this is fascinating and confusing. Her older brother has both an autoimmune disease, multiple chemical sensitivity and aspergers. We have chelated him all of this year and he takes a pfeiffer protocol amount of zinc per day...which is a lot. It has helped him so much that zinc was one of the first things I bought for our daughter after she was diagnosed. So, is autism a slow sluggish immune system, and autoimmune disease a fast one? If that is the case...how confusing that one of my children has both syndromes. I would have never thought of supplementing copper...zinc's antagonist. I have purposely avoided supplements with copper in the past, so this is a revelation.
Guest guest
-In our experience (and I stress it is only the way my son reacted) the Low Dose Naltrexone increased his allergies and eczema rather than the other way round. It hyped his immune system up in my opinion. I have heard from others saying the same thing. My son is better off LDN and they all say it is so safe, but all meds can have a side effect. I would dvise caution with any script meds. Guest guest
I agree. I found it interesting as well. I also avoided copper. As that is what I was told. And for some, they need to avoid it because they are already too high in it. The site explains that we should not over supplement with one mineral. That we need to give minerals with their counter minerals to obtain a balance in the body, otherwise we create another deficiency which results in some other disorder. The way the doc on this site sees autoimmune diseases is that under immune and over immune are both the same disorder, just manifested in different ways. That the cause is generally the same. He beleives that deficiencies in certain things are part of autoimmune disorders. The fact that you suggest MCS, and Aspie, and Auto...this is metals probably. But his idea would be that those metals have cause the imbalance in minerals which result in autoimmunity. Autism is a damage immune system. It may not be necessarily slow, it just isn't working right. That could be said for most of the population. So Autism has many more elements to it. But in essence many think that the exposure to toxic metals and viruses causes damage to the immune system. This leads to what is seen in Autism. However, metals and viral exposures also causes autoimmunity. So likely we are looking at the same causes for two forms of immune dysfunction. I would still provide my child with zinc, just at a resonable level. And make sure he is ok to have copper before giving any. You can naturally provide amounts of copper through foods like nuts and such too. Rather than actually giving a supplement. As the site explains there are ratios for it. And keep in mind that this site is based upon treating autoimmune problems in adults such as hypothyroid and hyperthyroid. The belief being that these disease are caused by deficiencies that resulted from exposure to chemicals, and heavy metals. > > Whoa...I am supplementing her with zinc right now... > > this is fascinating and confusing.
