Guest guest
For those who have Medicaid, if you get your doc to write a prescription for diapers, Medicaid should cover them. S S it would be nice if we could claim diapers as a medical expense if the child is over an acceptable age, like 6 or 7,
My son is 10.
winnchimes
_______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web! Guest guest
You can claim diapers over 5. If you have state wrap around medical coverage (medicaid, etc) have your doctor write a PRESCRIPTION for the diapers, they will be covered 100%. You can deduct every mile you drive for therapy. You can deduct every mile you drive to school. You can deduct every expense for supplements as long as you keep receipts. Contact your county assistance office (state welfare) if you have a disabled child in your home, you are often eligible for food assistance, in some cases the full monthly allowance. Some phone companies/electric companies allow reduced rates if you have a disabled individual in your home. I run a social services agency for children with LD's, and I have had the good fortune of meeting many people who work for state agencies. they have come to our meetings and spoken to parents about MANY things we would never guess were available to us. Check with your state/county assistance office. Speak to someone there who is knowledgable. There are more benefits available than most of us are aware of. And in some cases, average income does not matter. You are still eligible. Maybe I'll call our insurance company (Aetna) and see if they can help with that. Is there any additional information we need to know about this subject that is not covered on these 2 sites? winnchimes __________________________________________________________ Any questions? Guest guest
Also, out of pocket medical expenses must exceed $5000.00 for the year, and keep the receipts for every penny of it in a folder for several years per chance you are audited. You can claim any medication, supplement, copayment, test, doctor fee, transportation fee to get to a doctor, Dental fees, parking fee related to appointments, travel related to that visit, special medical equiptment or devices...see the Gov. tax site. It should have a description in more detail. But they must be medical things you paid for yourself that were not covered by your insurance. I beleive you can deduct your insurance premiums too. > > > it would be nice if we could claim diapers as a medical expense if the child is over an acceptable age, like 6 or 7,
> My son is 10.
> > winnchimes
> > > _______________________________________________ > Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com > The most personalized portal on the Web! >

I just printed out the 2006 instructions for schedules A & B from irs.gov and it states " You can deduct only the part of your medical and dental expenses that exceeds 7.5% of the amount on form 1040 line 38. " Which is adjusted gross income You can claim any medication, supplement, copayment, test, doctor fee, transportation fee to get to a doctor......................... insulin is the only non-prescription drug that can be claimed(so I've read....) related to appointments, travel related to that visit, special medical equiptment or devices...see the Gov. tax site.
