Guest guest
Are you giving the melatonin half an hour before bed...and not to early in the evening? My mom kept waking up like this. I asked her when she was taking it..and it was too late at night. Or too early. If she took at at 7pm, she would wake at night, and if she took it at like 11pm she would not sleep through either. Usually somewhere between 8:30-10pm seems to work. Also giving more if you are giving it at the right time. Her dose was too low. Others things to consider: Any nightime noises (furnace, etc) that might be waking him, Antimony bedding or pjs, Try running something like like a noise machine or humidifier to drown out other noises, Itchy clothing, restrictive clothing, etc. Other people snoring..all kinds of things. My son used to wake alot at night until I spent a night in his room. And then I could see why. He could hear the furnace going on, the toilet flushing, the shower running, the neighbors dogs out back barking like crazy...tons of stuff that I did not hear in my room. Just some ideas... > > Anyone use valerian to help with sleep? My ds goes to sleep well > thanks to 1 mg of Melatonin, but he wakes up countless times > throughout the night. Guest guest
Thanks for the ideas! We actually have a loud air filter in his room, it's been there since birth. You really can't hear any external noises in his room unless they're very loud. He's the early-to-bed early-to-rise type, and goes to bed around 7:30 (he's 18 mths old). I usually give the melatonin around 6:45. This worked great for us for two months; he was sleeping through almost every night. Then he got sick with some kind of awful virus, flu-like but not the flu. We all got it, it was horrid, to me it felt worse than the flu, worse than anything I've ever had except Mono. Anyway, his sleep has been shot every since. Two rounds of DMSA caused even more sleep problems -- now he sleeps less than ever, his naps are shorter, and he always wakes up crying halfway through his nap and has to cry himself back to sleep. We're agressively treating bacteria and yeast, and have Valtrex on board for viral issues, but none of this has improved his sleep. So basically something has changed biomedically for him, and until I figure out what it is, I'm desperate for some " bandaid " that will help us all get a little more sleep! > > > > Anyone use valerian to help with sleep? Guest guest
Hi, try giving him a little bit more melatonin, try a little more each night. to see how much he needs , we give our son 3 each night... Also try giving him a bath with 1 cup Epsom salts and 1 cup baking soda before bedtime. Try having him soak pouring the water over him for 30 minutes. try to get the water as hot as he can stand it, you are trying to create a sauna effect.. this will calm him down and get his body ready for sleep along with the melatonin.. Use this time for reading books, finger plays, acting out nursery rhymes or just talking. be creative and see if this works. good luck... Guest guest
My son had major night terrors on valerian and I had very very vivid dreams and anxiety. Just our experience but I thought it worth noting. > > > > > > Anyone use valerian to help with sleep? Guest guest
Well, that's what it was when he got sick a few weeks ago, and we had to go on antibiotics yeat again. None of the alternative remedies helped unfortunately. But the ear infection has cleared up now (doc just doublechecked a few days ago). Now he doesn't wake up crying, he wakes up and stims vocally for a few minutes, many times throughout the night. Driving us batty! If it happens early in the morning around 4:30 to 5:30, he usually completely wakes up and is not able to go back to sleep. Then he's tired and miserable all day. > > For my kids, waking up crying was ear infections. > > Barb > [ ] Re: sleep issues: valerian? > > > Thanks for the ideas! Guest guest
Any way to tell? Could there be yeast in the ears but the ears look fine when checked by a doctor? We've tried putting Mullein garlic ear drops in when we know his ears are bothering him, but he screams bloody murder and freaks out so badly I can't hold him down by myself without hurting him. So ear drops are traumatic and almost impossible for us when my husband isn't home, which is most of the time. Anything else we can try? We're treating yeast systemically with GSE and Diflucan. Should this also treat yeast in the ears or are ear drops our only option? > > > > For my kids, waking up crying was ear infections. > > > > > Here also, yeast in the ears. > > Dana >
Guest guest
> > Any way to tell? Could there be yeast in the ears but the ears look > fine when checked by a doctor? I suppose that is possible, if the doctor is looking for signs of bacteria only. I was able to tell, because of the interventions I was doing at the time. For example, many months ago [probably more than a year], two of my kids woke up crying with ear pain, and I had recently increased their anti-viral protocol, so I guessed it was yeast, gave oral GSE, and the problem was resolved. > Anything else we can try?
