Guest guest
Has anyone with a highly corn allergic child tried the gut permeability test? Mannitol is derived from corn and I am afraid to try it. The doc thinks it is a " purified chemical " and therefore will be fine. But I have been told this about other corn derived stuff that then caused a reaction. If we really got a lot of corn it could produce some serious depression and nasty nerve related symptoms, and could go on and on for weeks. I am hoping someone might have tried it and could tell me their experience.
Guest guest
Check out the info in 's book: " Seeds of Deception: Exposing Industry and Government Lies About the Safety of the Genetically Engineered Foods You're Eating " . Corn is a genetically-modified crop, unless organically grown. It has the potential to do terrible things to the gut and even merge with your DNA. All corn products are made from genetically-modified corn unless organic. The doc seems to be uneducated in this area. But you can do the research yourself and come to your own conclusions. Anything that is a " purified chemical " is still just a chemical. And why did it need to be purified in the first place????? Sounds unsafe to say the least. Organic is best. If man made it, it's a cheap substitute for the real thing. You may be able to find the " GMO Trio " ...... 2 DVD's and an audio CD with and world-renowned scientists who expose some of the stuff that's going on in the " mad scientist " world. Farmers in India who took out huge loans to buy genetically-engineered cotton seed fell into such deep debt that they ended up committing suicide. And it's not just overseas. Farmers in Canada and the US are having severe problems with the genetically-engineered crops and the companies that produce the seed, etc. GM foods are in every grocery store and restaurant, in the school cafeterias and institutions. We need to educate ourselves about food sources and get real familiar with the organic world. I say nix on the mannitol. In a message dated 5/26/2006 2:17:40 A.M. Guest guest
To me, corn is only part of the issue. Mannitol is a man-made substance. Our bodies do not do well with man-made substances. In " Breaking The Vicious Cycle " Elaine Gottschall says that only raw honey is good for autistics or people with digestive disorders. It is a monosaccharide, so it is digested before to gets down to where the candida is. Also honey has natural antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. It kills molds and yeasts. Thing is, even if the corn was organic, unless it truly was " highly purified " there would be traces of antigen. It was primarily this, an allergic reaction, that I was concerned about. This would occur regardless of whether the corn is GMO or organic. We eat zero corn, so don't usually deal with the GMO issue (the rest of what I feed my kids is organic where possible). So I am still wondering whether, GMO issue aside, it might be safe or not safe for the highly corn-sensitive to use mannitol. I mean, other corn-derived sugars are not safe, so why would this one be?? Anyone have any leads? I have called the lab--Doctor's Data--they can tell me nothing, and I have called the pharmacy that makes the sugar solution, they likewise can tell me nothing, other than yes, it is derived from corn, corn alcohol in fact, which we react to more strongly than other stuff. I really don't want to make my kids guinnea pigs. This test is desirable in part because the Ex disputes that the kids have allergies. Proving they have leaky guts is a step in the right direction to proving that they have allergies. > > > Check out the info in 's book: " Seeds of Deception: Exposing > Industry and Government Lies About the Safety of the Genetically Engineered > Foods You're Eating " .
