Guest guest
It sounds like he is doing this in response to stimuli that he cannot handle. As an example my son started to watch this kids dinosaur movie, he was really riveted. It has a part where the baby dinosaurs are in danger because a sharp tooth t rex is comming after them. My son will get up and hit the TV over and over again during that part. After the second time we watched it I asked him what he was doing, and he explained that it made him scared and angry, so if he could hit the bad dinosaur it would go away. Your son may be having trouble dealing with the noises or what is on tv. For us, we took the movie away and we are very careful that he not watch things like that. Does he have a sensory issue? My son has a sensory integration disorder so noises, violence, etc...get to him. And he does do odd things when he gets excited or frusturated. Usually jumping, or will hit others...only at home like you said though. Any viral treatment? That is the only other idea I can think of. But I think if it were just viral he would do this all the time, not just when provoked by certain things. My son covers his ears for loud noises, but we had to teach him that. He used to just freak out and climb up my leg. It sounds sensory related though. Just a thought. > > My 4 yr old autistic son is still head slapping even after treating for > fungals with Difflucan and Yeast Aid. > > We have also treated for the bacteria with Flagyl, Bactrim, Probiotics. > > He is on Gluten Free and Caesin Free Diet for the last 4 months and > takes the Brain Child Multivitamins. > > There has been improvement on speech, eye contact, sentence formation > and motor skills. > > His head slapping is causing us worries which he does when he sees a > violent seen in a movie, loud noise when his younger brother cries, or > when he gets excited or tantrums. Guest guest
Sounds like auditory hypersensitivity. There may be noises he can hear that others tune out, like the buzz of fluorescent lights, etc. Many with auditory hypersensitivity don't have coping skills, like covering their ears or moving away from the noise. You may need to teach him these. Guest guest
All of these medications and such are not going to eliminate the head slapping. It has nothing to do with yeast or fungus etc. What you're describing sounds like his response to certain stimuli or emotions. You say he does this when he sees a violent scene in a movie, perhaps that frightens him(fear is the emotion)When he gets excited or tantrums (happiness or anger is the emotion)And when his brother cries maybe he internalizes that " emotion " that his brother is feeling when he cries.Emotions are huge with some autistics and it is very hard to express verbally or to internally regulate the emotion(sensory)is can be overwhelming to them. It sounds as though you've narrowed down what the " triggers " are for this behavior and that is where the focus needs to be.Is he verbal enough to answer questions about why he does that? Keeping in mind he's only 4 so he may not yet have the capability of describing what he's feeling. Guest guest
> > My daughter has always had sensativity to sound. She would scream if something was loud. Now she covers her ears or leaves the room. This meant yeast overgrowth for my son. Dana
