My Doc just changed his mind about the DSMA. apperntly he went to a

seminar from Kane who has a different approach to

detoxification of heavy metals.

Detoxification in short words:

Detoxification includes:

1. goat whey

2. oil schedule

3. diet: low carbohydrates, many proteins (amino acids are needed for

transportation of mercury). When diet is changed and minerals are

supplemented, detoxification can start.

4. Basis of detoxification is the combination of Chlorella, bear's

garlic and Chinese parsley.

It is important to say, that strict vegetarians, who don't eat eggs,

will get difficulties at detoxification.

Does anybody have a opinion. I was so sure we would do the DSMA but

our doc is very excited about Kanes work. I know Iam the parent who

decides, still Iam cofused what to do?

It sounds like your Doc may not have much experience (no offense!).

How can he just change his mind on something like this? If he

doesn't have a track record of treating people, then perhaps he's

not the right person to be making the call. I've read that

Chlorella isn't safe (don't recall where, though I think in Cutler's

writings), parsley is unmeasurable (how much and how frequent?),

garlic has it's benefits like with yeast, dont' know about detox.

Protein diet sounds ok, certainly. DMSA is definately a more proven

& safe method.

I have no personal experience with her but I have heard, from MANY parents over

MANY years, than Kane (who is not a doctor, and has a questionable degree from a

diploma mill) is disreputable, that she " spies " on parents on lists such as this

one (pretending to be a parent and retaliating against her detractors in very

nasty ways), that she has no credibility with her peers, and that she's just

generally very bad news. It might be helpful to do some searches going back at

least 6-7 years and see what people have to say. Like I said, just passing along

what I've heard - sorry.

is right, I would be wary of a doctor who can change his mind

this quickly.

-- goat whey is high cysteine, so will be problematic for some

people. If this is whey *powder*, then you're also dealing with a

lot of free glutamic acid (the active part of MSG). Casein also may

or may not be a problem, depending on one's sensitivities.

-- amino acids are not chelators to my knowledge. They do other

helpful things, but they will not transport mercury out of the body.

-- chlorella and chinese parsley (cilantro) do move mercury around,

but because no one knows how to use them safely (what is the active

ingredient? What is the half life? How do you make standardized

formulas of the active ingredient if you don't know what it is?) they

are probably best avoided. You can look up many many warning posts

in the archives by Andy re: chlorella and cilantro, and Moria has

collected posts by people who have used these things too. These

posts are in the FAQ section, I think.

-- garlic is another food that some people will have problems with if

they are high sulphur. Also, it only has one thiol group, so not a

chelator.

-- I don't know much about Kane except that people are

absolutely forbidden to mention her on the ABMD list. You

might want to email the owner of that list to find out why.

Sorry about all of this, Bea. It gets confulsing, doesn't it?

take care

Your doc needs to go to seminars of real medical professionals.

As someone who researches amino acids for a living that women has no

knowledge about what she talks about as they are not chelators of mercury at

all.

Her knowledge of essential fatty acids is contrary to the world's research.

Protect yourself and see a real doctor who knows what they're doing.

My guess is this doctor of yours will attend another conference a

year from now and change his mind again... probably has little

understanding of the biology of Autism (and perhaps the body in

general!). Not uncommon, but perhaps not the leader you are looking

for.

I think it is great that doctors continue to try to educate

themselves, but dumping a proven chelation method after hearing one

good speech is a little scary.

Chlorella is considered a very unwise method of chelation by many

who follow the low/slow method of detox. I've never looked in to

it, but the archives are probably jammed packed with horror stories

and debates.

I would do what others have done and succeeded -- chelation using DMSA or DMPS

with the AC protocal. I experiment and try other things when the standard way

fails.
