Hi Becky,

I learned a long time ago, never to put your life and the lives of

your family into one Doctor's hands. Had we listened to the Dr. who

did my dad's heart cath 5 years ago, we would not have enjoyed yet

another Thanksgiving as a large, very close knit family! This man

was going to patch my dad's very dammaged heart with a stint...no

questions asked. He said " OK " . My sister-in-law said " uh uh " ! She

demanded to be given the video of the proceedure. The " good " doc

refused. She glared at him and said " NOW " ! He threw some nasty looks

and litterally snarled at her arrogance. They were nose to nose when

she said " Look, this man doesn't have time for us to get a Lawyer,

so cut the bullshit and get me that video " ! Within an hour, she had

it in her hands. Within 3 hours, she and my brother drove it to a

prominent Heart Surgeon at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. This Dr.

said there was no time to get my dad down there, but other family

members had already made the calls to get a team of Drs. assembled

at the Cleveland Clinic as per his suggestion. We didn't wait to

have him transported by ambulance. We put his coat and shoes on him

and drove him ourselves. After extensive examinations and a battery

of tests, they had him in surgery the next day. He had 5 by-passes

and a mitral valve replacement!

At 82, my dad is out playing cards as we speak. He works out at the

YMCA, he entertained a bar full of family and friends at a Kareoke

party, Thanksgiving Eve (he and my mom were the last to leave at

2:00 am) and they both love to go on gambling junkits!!!!

Long story... but it one of the most important lessons that I have

ever learned. My dad's life was saved that night, because my sister-

in-law dared to question. My grandson is recovering now because that

very same night, I learned that " acceptance " was unacceptable. If we

don't take control of our health and that of our dependents, then

whether or not we recover from " whatever " , is a crapshoot!

So, yes, I agree with you. I did a lot of research before picking

out a Dr. for Noah. I attended lectures given by different

Professionals and sent away for liturature and DVDs.

Our Dan! looked us straight in the eye at our first appointment and

told my dd and me that we will be working together. He stressed that

we have to continue to research and seek out answers. I knew then

that for us, we had chosen the right partner. Noah's treatment is a

joint effort, and his continuing road to recovery depends on us and

how we proceed safely and effectively.

....and I'm still learning!!!!

BTW, how is your baby girl doing in kindergarten? I remember your

story about her first day and how independant she was. A true

success story!!!!
