I wonder about WTC too. My husband is a NYC Sergeant (was a cop at the time)

and spent months on the pile. He'd change on the stoop and put his clothes

right in the wash when he came home because I was 7 1/2 months pregnant at the

time. I still can't help but wonder what he brought into our home and if any

of it affected our son.

Hi Everyone,

I've posted before but this time I have a real duzzy.

From January 2000 to June 2005 I was employed as a Forensic Death

Investigator at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner for the City of

New York. I worked at Ground Zero for months as well as at the

morgue where everyone was delivered. I was pregnant with Luke from

November 2002 until he was born a month prematurely in July 2003.

During that time I was employed by the OCME I was a field

investigator, which basically meant I would go to death scenes and

perform a complete death investigation then go back to the office,

write up my report and wait in the office for the next case. I did

this through out my pregnancy with Luke, literally until the day he

was born. Recently some of my co-workers from the OCME have

developed various health problems ranging from asthma to migraines to

pulmonary cysts. Most of these individuals were never even at Ground

Zero, purely office personnel. I spent countless hours at Ground

Zero as well as in the morgue throughout my pregnency with Luke.

Luke was diagnosed with PDD at 10 months. Another investigator also

had a kid born around the same time with neuro issues. I just

registered myself and Luke with the WTC monitoring system (ironically

enough) on Monday September 11th. I'm wondering if anyone out there

knows about what toxins may have been around both at Ground Zero and

in the Morgue building itself. The City is recognizing the morgue as

a potential hazzard as they have it listed onthe theie intact sheet.

Did you work at the morgue? Y / N

Luke has an appointment next week at Mt. Sinai and I'm a little

nervous about it. Any advise or assistance is appreciated. One last

thing, does anyone know if risotto is gluten free? Thanks, Kim

I'm sure you could find out more by googling, but the toxicity at

Ground Zero was enormous for many many different toxins -- mercury,

lead, cadmium, pretty much you name it. All those flourescent lights,

computers, building materials etc. getting vaporized.

So sorry you got exposed doing your job, and that you and all the

other GZ worker were lied to.

I doubt there's anything here about the toxic aftermath of 9/11 that

you don't already know, but the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

ps. risotto is pasta, so not gluten free unless you find special GF

Hi, Kim.

First of all, that sounds like the coolest job. I know that might

be a strange comment... I'm sorry the job has lead to so many

questions about your son. How is YOUR health?

Unfortunately, I believe Luke has been affected by your work at

Ground Zero. I'd get a DDI hair test, for one. Same for you. It

will be more complicated getting a hair test in NY. Bloodwork will

probably tell you nothing... but your type of exposure is so

different than what we deal with in our children so I'm really not

sure. Most toxins will leave your bloodstream and settle in tissues

fairly quickly. I'd look at lead for sure. Personally, I think

you'll have to find a doctor outside of the mainstream to really

help you figure this out (although I have no idea what the WTC

monitoring system really consists of).

Rissoto, the rice itself (arborio) will be gluten free. What you

put IN it will be the important part. The chicken broth should be

OK (check the label, though, unless you make your own stock). Keep

the recipe simple and it should be easier to keep GF.

Restaurant/deli prepared risotto will need verification of

ingredients... and probably a risk due to things like modified food

starch and other 'stuff' they might add.

I wish you luck with your Mt. Sinai appointment. What is the

appointment for? Come prepared with a list of questions.

Ground zero would have had mercury from all those fluorescent lights, cement

dust, and jet fuel among other things. Don't let them do a " challenge " of any

chelator.

Risotto is made from arborio rice and is gluten free. Watch what you use to

make your risotto though. Double check your chicken stock or base if you use

that. McCormick spices are gluten free unless they have changed. They told me

if there was no ingredient list it was free of any additives.

I am with , there was likely a massive amount of mercury and other

toxins. All of them can cause all kinds of health issues especially in kids.

Babies aren't able to detox themselves very well and environmental toxins really

do a lot of damage. My son is autistic due to toxic levels of several things.

Clearing them from his body has made a huge difference. He is now in regular

kindergarden and only needs an aid two days a week because the school is very

fast paced. It is only a month into school and they are already reading and

learning spanish.

Doctors may prove only somewhat helpful. This group can be most helpful if

you let us. We are further down this road and have seen what works and what

doesn't. A good first step could be to get a hair test done. It shows a lot of

what is going on. You can determine toxicity and vitamin/mineral deficiencies.

Amazing tool.

I really hope all goes well for your little boy. Getting treatment early is

really a blessing, the potential for success and a typical life are much greater

the earlier you start!!

See if you can get everybody hair tested. You'll have to go through someone who

lives outside of NY. I wonder if the fire retardants firefighters use on fires

contain arsenic?
